As we turn the page to September, Rotary International shines a spotlight on one of the most fundamental building blocks of human progress: education and literacy. This month, Rotarians worldwide unite to champion the cause of Basic Education and Literacy, recognizing that knowledge truly is power.
Enhancing Basic Education skills and Literacy are essential in reducing poverty, improving health, encouraging community and economic development, and promoting peace. Improvements can reduce maternal death, improve childhood survivability, and reduce poverty. They can also enable success in business or a profession.

At our September 4th meeting, Rotarian Dr. Charles Barbera, MD, MBA, MPH, FACEP, and President and CEO of Reading Hospital, delivered an insightful update on the healthcare industry. He discussed how Reading Health is adapting to our community's needs through the use of emerging technologies and staff development. We are exploring opportunities to engage in future mental health and wellness service initiatives.
