Meet my Sargent at Arms, Chris Laskey
Meet Chris Laskey.....He has been in all of our hearts and prayers....  I was lucky enough to sit down and have a conversation with Chris, to get to know him better.   And, I'd like to share my experience with you....

Chris Laskey was born in beautiful, downtown Norristown at Montgomery Hospital..49 years ago....the big 50 is coming!   His family had a house on Noble Street, where Chris and his family of Mom and Dad, aka Chops....Mom was German and Chops was Italian, Irish, and English... When Chris was four, the family moved to the Royersford area, in Orchard Court...Soon after two younger brothers came along....Chris went to school at Spring Ford.  During his academic career, Chris was a big sports guy....playing golf, soccer, and baseball...Baseball was and is his favorite sport!  When asked who is his favorite baseball player....His response..."Ryan Sandberg"....Who was traded from the Phillies Minor League to Chicago to become a Hall of Fame player, playing second base.   Chris himself was quite the second-base player.  He went to the State Championships and was in the Perky baseball league, the Collegeville White Sox, the same team as Jamie Moyer and Mike Piazza....In Chris' own words, "I could field any ball, but, my hitting was not the greatest."   Our man, Chris, got traded to Norristown for a case of cheap beer!!!!!  He played on the Norristown team for two years until that fateful day when he got injured with a broken knuckle, ending the baseball dream.  Both he and his Dad, Chops owned the Collegeville White Sox after Chris ended his playing career from 1999-2005, which Chris says, "now that was a lot of fun!"

Upon graduating from Spring-Ford in 1991, he attended Montco Community College in Blue Bell for his undergrad work, and then transferred to Temple University.   During college, he still was playing baseball, but, the dream of a career in baseball was shattered when he broke his thumb during a game.   But, still, the love affair with baseball never stopped.   He was involved with a group that would purchase blocks of tickets and go to the games!    On one particular outing, he had 25 tickets and brought all of his friends and family....In that group was his future wife, Denise.   By the sixth inning of that game, Denise and Chris seemed to gravitate toward each other....They tailgated after the game and the very next week they went on their first date....Denise and Chris dated for 3 years, both in their mid 30's.....Chris dreamed up an elaborate plan for the engagement...then finding that the ring burnt a hole in his pocket, decided to buy flowers and proposed in her townhouse!   They were engaged for one year and have been married for 16 years.   Denise's family loves Chris, especially Denise's Father.....

Chris and Denise married and honeymooned in Hawaii.   Soon after, they purchased their first home in Montgomery Township.  They put elbow grease and sweat equity into it and made it their home.  They were sold on the great kitchen, as they both cook, and the pool, as they love to have fun!   In 2010, they welcomed their firstborn, Abbey Rose, who is now 12.  Abbey Rose was named after Chris' paternal grandmother Rose.... When I asked Chris what he thought Abbey would do, he replied, "a school teacher".....and then in 2013,  AJ was born.  Chris and Denise's 9-year-old son, is a cross between "McGyver" and an Olympic archer....AJ started with archery at a Cub Scout event when he was 7 years old, and now has won contests and is fast approaching Olympic caliber.
Denise, Chris' wife, is of Irish descent, and is the creative one in the family!   She has had her own company, Laskey Creative, since 2014.  Denise is a graphic designer for oncology products who work from home....Chris cannot be more proud of Denise....Because of Denise's company demands, Chris is on "Dad duty" often.....he is a very involved parent with the boy scouts.

Cancer entered his life recently.....Although it does not define him, it has certainly changed how he lives.....He was diagnosed with esophageal junction cancer in.2020. which was Stage III.   He was treated with proton radiation and chemotherapy and surgery.   The doctors were nicknaming him the "Outlyer".....Chris started to work out more rigorously, ate better, and read up on how to beat this horrible disease.  He is very spiritual and cherishes the "Padre Pio" shrine in Barto.   In April 2021 he was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Esophageal cancer, as it moved from his esophagus to the peritoneal in 11 months.   He has combined the medical treatment from Penn Medicine with Eastern Holistic treatments to beat cancer.   Chris has gotten great news recently, and miraculously, cancer has "left the building"....

Cycling is Chris' #1 hobby....he was a marathon runner, but when cancer struck, the running came to an end. He participated in a fundraising bike race, supporting Penn Radiology and Oncology proton radiation therapy, called "Beam of Life".   He had not cycled since college, but, now a 13 - 15 mile ride is nothing!   He found the deal of a lifetime on Facebook Market Place for a Trek bike, the Gary Fisher model.   This bike was unique and only built for one year!

Bucket list items for Chris.....Travel to Italy!   They would also like to go back to Hawaii.
