“The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers.” (Ralph Nader) We in the Souderton-Telford Rotary Club have been very fortunate, indeed, over these many years that our club leadership has continuously and successfully encouraged and fostered those to come after them.

Rotarians who “move through the chairs” receive an invaluable education, not only in leadership but also in what the ethos of Rotary really is. By the time they reach the role of Club President they have assimilated and absorbed the various qualities of those they served under and are all the readier for their turn.

At our club’s Changeover Night we again witnessed the fruits of that education which is so Rotarian as now Past President Steve Kendra passed the gavel to Leon Moyer, who will lead us in 2017-2018. This annual ceremony is much more significant than many of us might think.

Bags of the ever-popular Moyer Indoor/Outdoor bird seed … gourmet meals … orchestra tickets … unique tools and other things of interest … all of these usual auction items, and more, were there for the bidding at our annual Rotary Charity Auction on September 29. Guests included members of the North Penn and Perkasie Rotary Clubs, various spouses and staff from Alderfer Auctions who assisted our own Sandy Alderfer in enticing everyone to up their bidding, and leaders from our targeted charities.

This year we celebrated the twenty-second annual STRC Christmas Party for children in our community. It may have been the biggest, most boisterous – but also most well-behaved – one of them all!

Ninety years is a long time, a very long time. In today's unsettled and stressed-out world, celebrating a 90th birthday or anniversary is a real accomplishment. And so, it was indeed a “special event” on the night of October 29, 2015 that the Souderton-Telford Rotary Club held in recognition of its 90 years of “Service Above Self” to our community.  Click here for the photo album

Pictured between Rotarians Al Engel and John Young are three of the six SAHS Juniors sponsored by ST this past summer.  From left to right are Chelse Burton;  Steve Sherlock; and Eve Austin.

Among the most rewarding things we get to do as Rotarians is the shaping of young adults into tomorrow's leaders through various scholarship and awards programs.  Camp Neidig is one such program which ST is pleased to sponsor each year for qualifying Souderton Area High School (SAHS) Juniors.

The Golf Benefit was an unqualified success.  The weather was very cooperative, the Indian Valley Country Club (IVCC) staff knocked themselves out to take care of all our needs and we had many Rotarians volunteering to make the event run smoothly.  The event raised about $12,000 for the youth in our community.  The Stone & Flick Children's fund will be a significant beneficiary.  Click on the photo album on the right column to see all of the fun!

Three students from Souderton Area High School recently competed in the S-T, 4-Way Speech Contest.  Niara, Kyle, and Juliana did an excellent job in defending their topics with the practical application of all four points of the Rotary Four-Way test.

Congrats to Niara for her first place win! Niara will move on to compete in Rotary District 7430 regional contest.

Word FM, a local, faith-based radio station, and the Souderton-Telford Rotary who partnered with Univest Foundation to establish the Stone & Flick Children Fund are pleased to announce that the Fund has reached $109,538.62 as of Tuesday, January 13. The Fund was started to assist the Stone daughters and Anthony Flick, surviving children who lost their parents and sibling after the devastating tragedy in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania on Monday, December 15.

“We are overwhelmed by the support of the community so far,” said Dave Baker, Word FM station manager.  “It’s heartwarming to see people coming together to help those in need. We are encouraged to see that even if we can’t replace the void in these kid’s lives, we can help make their future a little brighter”
