Ronald McDonald House Update

Ronald McDonald House will allow volunteers in their building, on a limited basis, to cook for the residents.   Only four people may participate and the prepared meals must be put in a “to go” box.  Volunteers must wear a mask and must be vaccinated.  Residents come in from 6 to 7 pm to take a box.  We can start cooking at 2 pm to be sure we are ready by 6 pm.

Would you like to volunteer?  If so, please email me, BJCOLO10@comcast.net.  Multiple dates in April are available, usually Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
We have several recipes to use from our past years of serving the residents.  We can select more than one date.  Cooking together is a fun and rewarding activity for Smoky Hill Rotary Club members.  I hope you will participate.
President BETSY JANSEN

Ukraine Refugee Donation
The Board approved a donation of $2,000 to be sent to Oradea Rotary Club to help defray the cost of re-settlement of Ukrainian refugees.  This amount has been wired to Oradea.  Many of you have pledged an individual donation.  Other Rotary Clubs in our District have been contacted to ask for a donation.  The Board requested matching funds from District 5450.  As I have talked with friends about this project, a couple have made donations.  We will continue trying to raise additional funds for a few weeks.

Following is a response from Dacian Coita on behalf of the Oradea Rotary Club:
Your support and involvement is wonderful and amazing. It is not just the money but the feeling you are close to us. Thank you so much on behalf pf our Club. This fund will help us servicing a lot of people.

We have supported a family of 2 parents and 5 children crossing Romania and leaving further to Budapest than Prague. They came from Odessa region, entering south east of Romania (Tulcea city) and crossing the entire country until Oradea. This was the first support we delivered.
Keep you posted on the developments
Dacian

Rotary International Travel Opportunity

Smoky Hill Rotarians have the opportunity to travel to Nepal in late 2022.  This is an international project that our club was involved in. The following invitation was received from Dr. Mary Hubbard with the Bozeman Sunrise Rotary Club that headed up the project:

 Namaste All,
I am writing to say that our Nepali Global Grant education project is finally underway.  You are receiving this email as a representative for your club and I’m hoping you can share this opportunity with your club members.  As we discussed when I presented to your club, we are planning to take Rotarians to Nepal to participate in this project.  Ideally we will offer this type of opportunity each of the three years.  Our first trip will be right after Thanksgiving next fall.  I have attached a flyer for the trip options and I am pasting some trip information below this note.  Feel free to contact me or Chris Moriarty with questions or to express your interest.  Chris is a member of our Bozeman Sunrise Rotary Club and also runs an eco-travel company here in town.  We hope to gauge preliminary interest now but will ask for a confirmed commitment in a few months.  I look forward to traveling with you or your club colleagues!  Again, many thanks for your support and your club’s support of this project.  Best, Mary
 SUBJECT: YOU’RE INVITED TO NEPAL!
 Background
Bozeman Sunrise Rotary Club’s (BSRC) International Committee, chaired by Dr. Mary Hubbard, has spearheaded a rural development initiative in Nepal focused on teacher training, educational leadership, classroom improvements and e-learning in six rural schools in and around Kathmandu. The project received full funding with a Rotary Global Grant and began work in February 2022.
You Are Invited To Nepal
BSRC, in collaboration with Moraway Adventures, is offering a trip to Nepal in November 2022 that is open to Rotary members and supporters. BSRC member Chris Moriarty is the founder and CEO of Moraway Adventures which specializes in eco-adventure travel around the world. He and his wife traveled and trekked through Nepal in 2019.
The primary purpose of this trip is to visit some of the schools that BSRC is supporting and meet the students, teachers, and administrators implementing the program. There are also several options to extend your time to further explore Nepal on your own or with a small group. Please note that we are expecting to offer similar trips in 2023 (May/June and/or Nov/Dec 2023).
