Special Things For Special Kids-A Smoky Hill Rotary Tale
The 21st Annual Special Things For Special Kids shopping event at Walmart was held last month. Thanks to a lot of people within this club, at Walmart and at Jewell Elementary, it was a great day especially for the 28 kids who got school clothes they otherwise probably would not have gotten.
Special Smoky Hill Trivia-Do you know how the event came to be called Special Things For Special Kids? I was president the year we came up with this service event. At the "after-board meeting" (a tradition that has sadly gone by the way side), several of us were sitting around discussing over our favorite adult beverage what to call the event. I noticed that Gary Fletcher was not saying anything, most unusual for him, but was merely doodling on a napkin. I asked him what he was doing and he said how about something like this-and he held up the napkin with "Special Things For Special Kids" written on it. So I said how about something exactly like that. And so STSK was christened. Thanks, Gary, for another contribution to the rich history of Smoky Hill Rotary.
