SANTA CLAUS IS ALMOST HERE ... HAVE YOU BEEN NAUGHTY OR NICE … to help make Christmas brighter for students at Century Elementary School and the victims of domestic violence at Gateway Domestic Violence Services? Community Services Chair PP Darryl Harvey said there is one kid's name left but Pauline Ayers-Menk was spotted taking that name so thanks to Pauline and everyone who is purchasing gifts for the kids! President Talee Crowe took one of her (16 is it?) grandkids to have a positive experience shopping for others. GREAT IDEA, so after grabbing another kid's name on Monday, we grabbed Logan & Hannah, headed to Target, and shopped for 4 year old Jaedyn. Logan had some good questions on our way back to the car … do you know Jaedyn? Then how did you know what he wants for Christmas? Do you know his parents? Then how do you know where they live so you can take the presents to them? A little hard for a 7 year old to understand why you are buying gifts for someone you don't know and will never see, just like the thousands of other people Rotary touches but may never see. It left a positive impression on Logan ... then we told him to either put a lid on the questions or call Darryl Harvey!

Wrap your gift, attach the gift tag and bring it to the club's holiday party on December 1 (details below) or get it to Darryl at the weekly meeting on December 3. And there is still time to purchase $25 gift cards for Gateway from King Soopers, Safeway, Target, Walmart, etc. and get them to Darryl in the next week or so!

HOLIDAY PARTY IS THIS SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1ST … beginning at 6pm at Talee's home located at 9006 E Evans Court, Denver, 80231. Talee's home is at the bottom of a cul-de-sac so if you arrive early on, park your car straight in to the curb in front of her house to make room for others on the cul-de-sac. Each Rotarian is asked to bring either an appetizer (last names beginning with A-L) or a dessert (last names beginning with M-Z). Dress is holiday casual and since there is no cost to attend! Please RSVP to the Evite you received from PP Terry Remigio or contact Terry!

AURORA ROTARIAN CRAIG WAGNER A CHANNEL 7 EVERYDAY HERO … Prior to our meeting this week President Talee Crowe saw a clip on Channel 7 News covering Craig Wagner and his work for the Peaceful Schools Program which combines the efforts of the Aurora Family YMCA and the Rotary Club. The program relies on Craig and other volunteers to visit schools to help equip young students with skills to help prevent bullying. Craig has been a YMCA volunteer for almost 40 years! Kimberly Armitage, executive director of the Aurora YMCA, said he has raised more than $250,000 for the Aurora YMCA branch. The story of another noble Rotarian embodied in a life of Service Above Self!! Thank you Craig!

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE … PP Betsy Jansen had sign up sheets on the tables for prepping and serving dinner at The Ronald McDonald House on Tuesday, December 4. Betsy needs at least 2 more volunteers to help her out. Volunteers need to arrive at 4:15pm and be ready to serve dinner at 6pm.

NOVEMBER IS ROTARY FOUNDATION MONTH … The Rotary Foundation is one of the top 10 rated Foundations in the world, according to Foundation Chair PP Lloyd Gottman! The Foundation funds projects for Rotarians! You can donate $100 a year to the Foundation or for each $1,000 donated you will receive a Paul Harris Fellow recognition. And for each $10,000 you donate, Major Donor recognition! As a Major Donor you can designate how the funds are to be used.

SMOKY HILL ROTARVARIETY OF NEWS … PP Bill Maclay is still out of town following the passing of their son, Todd. Continue to keep your thoughts and prayers with Bill and Leigh. January 25, 2019 is the RI President's Dinner and Prez Talee Crowe would like to see Smoky Hill occupy a full table. RI President Barry Rassin will speak and it is an honor to have RI President's consistently attend District 5450's dinner. The cost is $65 per person and you can go to the District's website for more information and to make reservations. The second session of the Rotary Institute is this Saturday, December 1 and the club will pay for your admission. Please go to the District website for the agenda and to make reservations as soon as possible. Program Co-Chair PP Dave Maxwell is hosting a White Elephant Gift Exchange at our meeting on December 17. Dave will pass out rules for the exchange next week. Sgt At Arms PP Jim Suss thanked PP Clay Fell for filling in for him last week but made a point by not addressing him as Lieutenant At Arms.

CAPTAIN JAMES T. KIRK OF THE USS ENTERPRISE, RETIRES FROM THE YMCA … "It's A Small World After All" thanks to President Talee Crowe for mentioning Craig Wagner's appearance on Channel 7 News (see above). It was good to see Kimberly Armitage on the news clip. She was president of the Aurora Rotary club in 2007-08 when this Editarian was president of Smoky Hill. But it was a huge surprise to discover, after Googling the YMCA and seeing a picture of the person who recently began sitting in front of us at CU football games, who we nicknamed Captain Kirk because of his resemblance to William Shatner (on left), is actually James ("Jim") Hiner, former CEO & President of the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver (on right)! Jim retired in September of this year ending a YMCA career that began in 1971 at the age of 16! If we see Jim next year, we will thank him for his 45+ years of service to the YMCA! And I will thank him for serving as Captain of the USS Enterprise during my years of service as a Star Trek Trekkie (a.k.a. Trekker)! A BIG thanks goes to Talee "Trekkie" Crowe (had to do that, it rhymes) for introducing us to our football game day neighbor!

Tamila Bauer is a practitioner with a continuous passion to "Create Amazing and Make It Stick"! It only takes four seconds to form and opinion about someone. Think about the work you perform, the business you run, your associates. Are your relationships collaborative, consistent and caring? How are we contributing to our friendships and adding to their lives?

Tamila has spent 26 years in the auto industry and was attending an auto show convention in Las Vegas and exited to hear the speaker whose reputation preceded him. As she was listening to the speaker, the batteries in his microphone went dead. You could tell by the tension and tone in his voice that he wasn't happy. The reaction and response he had to the difficult situation left a distaste, disconnection with Tamila.

The Pillars (Gold Standards) of the Ritz Carlton include the motto "We are Ladies and Gentlemen serving Ladies and Gentlemen." The motto exemplifies the anticipatory service provided by all of the Ritz's staff members. The Ritz promotes a culture of anticipation, to give you what you need before you have to ask for it. The experience they provide instills well-being, and fulfills the unexpressed wishes and needs of their guests. It is an attitude of servitude - listen, respond and anticipate.

How do we want to show up? Do we want to set the face, set the stage? Are we taking care of ourselves so we can take care of those around us? What are the triggers we hold onto that we need to push through?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is learning the language of your own mind. Your unconscious mind may be keeping you from making more money, peace with friends and other goals but it is getting lost in the translation. You have to know how to have your conscious and your unconscious mind communicate with each other in order to achieve what you want . If there was one thing you could change, one habit you could break, what would it be? Advancing your NLP could be the solution.
