CLUB MEETING NOTES:
President Denny Passatino opened the meeting as he likes to do with this day in history:
1802: The 1st non Indian Settlement is established in Oklahoma.
1846: Neptune's moon Triton is discovered by William Lassell.
1980: The Yankees lose 4-2 and are swept by Royals in AL Championship series.
1987: Bruce Springsteen releases his 9th album 'Tunnel of Love.'
2006: Google buys YouTube.com.
2014: Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to Malala Yousafrazi and Kailash Satyarthi for the work they did with advocating for children's rights. Malala was just 17 when given the award and is the youngest recipient in history.
Betty and Bob radio show - missed the year! Pretty popular until Betty and Bob got married!
Habitat for Humanity: We will be assisting with the restoration of a home in the Globeville (4771 Sherman St.) neighborhood on Saturday, November 5th. PP Al Horton will be passing around sign up sheets for the next few weeks, so sign up. We need at least 5 volunteers.
Thanksgiving is coming! Instead of Thanksgiving baskets, there will be King Soopers gift cards for families in need. The Food Bank of the Rockies is always looking for volunteers if you'd like to help fill food baskets.
Sadly, Frances announced that this was his last meeting with us due to health reasons. We sincerely wish him the very best and look forward to seeing him for special events.
Remember this: The next club offsite will be on October 17 with a visit to DAVA. Box lunches will be provided. DAVA is located at 1419 Florence Street between Colfax and 14th.
Rotary Trivia: At the first Rotary meeting in 1904, there were just 4 people in attendance. Rotary has also been known as 'Men with Friends,' 'Blue Boys' and 'Round Table.' Originally, there were no dues! Funds were collected by $.50 fines! The first few years, the primary aspects of Rotary were friendship and reciprocity and then civic service was added as the 3rd goal of Rotary. The greatest distance the Rotary Banner has been flown from Chicago is the Apollo 8 mission.
And some words of wisdom from our dearly departed Gary Fletcher:
1. The brain cannot comprehend what the butt cannot tolerate.
2, The customer is not always right but they are still the customer.
3. We cannot control the actions of others but we can control our own reactions to others.
If anyone has any ideas for a Halloween themed club gathering, please let PP Terry Remigio know.
Happy Anniversary to the Radke's.
