Gary, Jeffrey and James Fletcher

 

This is from Jeff Kaes, sent to me on June 12th:

 

I am writing with sad, but not unexpected news.  Our Honorary member, James Fletcher, son of his late parents, Gary Fletcher and Anne Fletcher, and twin brother of the late Jeffrey Fletcher passed away peacebly this morning, June 12th under the care of Hospice in his Assisted Living Group Home in Castle Rock.
 
James suffered for years from Myotonic Dystrophy, the disease which first took his strength, then his mobility, and finally his life.  Prior to Gary's passing, Gary asked Terry, Talee, and me to care for the various aspects of his life.  The bulk of that care went to Terry and Linda, who were honored to be entrusted with James's life and care.  Terry and Linda provided extraordinary care, improving and extending James's life beyond compare.
 
About 2 weeks ago Terry informed that James was back in the hospital for the 4th time in a couple of months with aspiration pneumonia, a terminal consequence of his disease. James had elected to sign a DNR and begin Hospice care.  I saw him the next day and came to offer prayers and comfort, and was amazed at the calm, cerebral, and matter of fact way that James was handling himself and his decision.  Talee just had a long conversation with him in the living room of his Assisted Living home and also was amazed at his matter-of-fact understanding of where he was in his life.
 
As I left the hospital a couple of weeks ago, I told James, "James, you know, we are all on our way home."  He smiled and agreed.
 
May the Peaceful Rest of God be with this wonderful Soul.

Our program on July 27th will be another hands on. Charlene Moser, FBR will assist us. We will put together mesh bags as we did once before. The bags will be used for fresh vegetables, fruit to go out to the Food Bank Mobile pantries. Rotarians are encouraged to bring non-perishables, diapers, etc.. to help the Food Bank during the summer months.

Our Golf tournament is Thursday, August 6th at Common Ground Golf Course. This is our only fundraising project so it is critical that we get players and sponsors.  Last year, we made $5000 less and this year’s budget is already looking dire as we are having to cut funds to projects we hold near and dear to our hearts. We need EVERYONE to contribute either by bringing in players or sponsor donations.
