Golf Tournament
s This is our 6th Annual Smoky Hill Golf Tournament hosted by Common Ground Gold Course in Aurora, Colorado!  Our first ever golf tournament was on August 1st which was Bob Hughs birthday - father of Joe!  Since this first tournament took place, we've raised close to $100,000 for our various causes.  CommonGround loves Smoky Hill Rotary and has stated that we are one of the best tournaments of the year!  Let's keep up the good work!

PDG Talee Crowe passed out assignments to each of us that are working the event.  Assignments are subject to change!  Please check in with Talee if you need a reminder of your assignment or need to request a different assignment.  PLEASE be there by 6am so we are ready for those eager, early morning golfers!

Thank you to Joe and Cindy who put together 144 goodie bags full of great stuff!

We do have a full contigency of 144 golfers which breaks down to 36 foursomes!

What's different this year?  The MUTANT hole!  Hole #3!  They will start at 403 yards.  For every $20 the group puts in, they get to move 20 yards closer to the hole.  There are lots of prizes and other pieces that will make this a fun spot!  Your editarian has never played golf - other than mini golf - and has never helped with a golf tournament!  So - terminology is a bit of a foreign language!  Should you get a break from your assignment - wander to the MUTANT Hole #3 and see what's happening!
This is all about having fun to raise money for kids in Aurora. Here's some fun golf thought to keep you laughing until Friday and the next time you go out to play some golf!

This is our one and only fundraiser for the year.  This fundraiser supports Century Elementary - Back to School, four year scholarships for Overland High School students, CCA scholarships, Comitis, Gateway Battered Women's Shelter, Boy Scout Troop 641, Romanian Children and the Ronald McDonald House.

A HUGH thank you to Broadview Animal Clinic, our only Platinum Sponsor again this year!!!

A HUH thank you to SUSS Buick GMC!  Once again, Hole #17 will be our HOLE IN ONE, with a lease to a brand new car.  And, they are also putting 3 new opportunities for our friends to win gifts on Hole #2, #6 and Hole #12 for a Hole in One!!

A HUGH thank you to our Silver and Bronze Sponsors and to all the volunteers who will make this event special!

MEETING NOTES
CLUB MEETING NOTES:

President Denny Passatino opened the meeting with some dates in history which your editarian ran out of time to investigate further!  However, November 7th date in history shows a lot of activity!  In 1651, the Sun King was crowned and he was only 13 years of age!  Lewis and Clark have the first recorded sighting of the Pacific Ocean and the Wright Brothers completed the first cargo flight for a department store!  And - of course - there was some sports history!  You sports trivia folks know your history!

Barbara Fruitman joined us today to say THANK YOU for our contributions to the SHARE project.  With the support of our contribution, she was able to present gift cards to 117 families to aide in their holiday endeavors.

Habitat for Humanity:  Was AWESOME!  We had beautiful weather and worked with a great crew!  If you have some time, take a drive through the Globeville neighborhood which is North of I-70 and East of I-25.  Numerous homes have received some much needed TLC from Habitat for Humanity!  Paint, new door hardware, new street numbers and the building of a ramp from the backdoor filled out the day along with some cleanup.  The home looks so inviting!  Thank you for pitching in on this project Al, Craig, Hugh, Susan and Susan's husband, Ted!

Talee shared that we are collecting knit hats - new or used in clean and good condition over the next several weeks.  These hats will go into the backpacks we'll be filling for our 180 program.  We need approximately 30 hats and we can find homes for any extra hats.  Please bring them in!  We fill the backpacks on 11/28/2016.  We learned that the 180 Outreach and Comitis have lost federal funding but are working to keep moving forward with support from groups such as Smoky Hill Rotary.

Thanksgiving season is here!  Instead of Thanksgiving baskets, there will be King Soopers gift cards for families in need.  The Food Bank of the Rockies is always looking for volunteers if you'd like to help fill food baskets.

Need to improve your skills in the kitchen?  Join Talee at the Ronald McDonald House on Nov 15th.  You must be there at 4:15.  Talee is still in need of 6 more volunteers.

Golf!  Yes - golf!  Our Golf Committee never sleeps!  Mark your calendars now for the tournament for 2017.  Friday, August 4th!  Thanks Gary!

Presidential Trivia - appropriate for Election Eve!

The oldest person ever elected was Ronald Reagan and the youngest ever elected was John F Kennedy.  Grover Cleveland was the only president to serve 2 non-consecutive terms and George Washington was the only one appointed by a unanimous vote.  The most lopsided election was 1936 when FD Roosevelt won the election.  Ford was the only President to serve as both vice President and President without being elected and he does have a run named for him at Vail!

HAPPY Birthday to Jim, Mick and Bruce!

And, even though they are no longer active members of our club,  Happy Birthday to Fran and Vlad!

Smoky Hill Rotary club goal is to raise $500 for Polio Plus.  Let's make this happen!
