POLIO PLUS DRIVE
A big thank you to Lloyd Gottman and Jeff Kaes for jumpstarting our Polio Plus drive on October 28th.
Lloyd shared his personal 80 year relationship with polio in that his brother was carries out of their apartment by the doctor, paralyzed on his left side and waist down with polio. He spent three months in the hospital and was fortunate to learn to walk again but with no leg muscles, just by swinging his hips. Fast forward 40 years, and Rotary made Eradicating Polio its signature project. Rotary has raised enough money to have 2.5 billion children vaccinated and even stopped the war in Gaza for several days to vaccinate children in Gaza. Polio is still in two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Jeff spoke as Smoky Hill President in 1985 when Polio Plus was started. Jeff committed $300 and Lloyd $200 matching funds for donations made by our members.
A huge thank you to the following members who committed to polio that day with additional donations: Hunter Blevins, Craig Essex, Clay Fell, Linda Forsythe, Gary Frisch, Darryl Harvey, Hugh Radke, and Paul Urtz, for a total of $1250. For those members not at the meeting, they may also participate in helping Rotary ERADICATE POLIO FROM THE WORLD by sending Jeff Kaes an email at
Jeff.kaes@gmail.com and he will add your donation to your monthly statement. Hugh shout-out to Lloyd and Jeff!!!!!!
