Thank you to Pat Pogue for setting up today's off site! We gathered at Colorado Feeding Kids which is a warehouse in Englewood where meals are packaged and distributed to food banks around Colorado and where ever needed. Following a great lunch, we were put to work including hair nets and gloves. Don't they look great? New fashion statement! And what were we packaging? Complete nutrition that included beans, rice, vegetables and a seasoning/vitamin blend. Each bag was carefully labeled, filled, weighed and sealed. Each bag contains food for 6 meals. We were busy and filled enough bags to provide 3800 meals! Not bad for about 30 minutes worth of work! Sounds like this is something we'd like to make happen annually! This program is not open to volunteers during July and August. The first Saturday of every month is an open volunteer day if you're looking for something to do. They very much welcome groups such as Smoky Hill Rotary to come in and assist with packaging. Thanks again Pat! |
