SMOKY HILL ROTARY'S

9th ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT … Friday, August 2nd! Corporate Sponsor Chair PP Paul Urtz and the bookkeeper PP Mark Johnson said we have about 80 golfers on the tee box but we need over 60 more … with July just around the corner and no meeting again until, Monday, July 8th, it would be a very good time for everyone to contact their sponsors, friends, associates, etc and get the message out to register for the tourney. As Paul said … "if you want to play, you've got to pay!" Day of Event Chair President Talee Crowe passed around a sign up sheet for ALL Rotarians to sign (our one and only fundraiser calls for 100% club participation) and indicate your preferred assignment. There are many DOE duties including registration, raffle ticket sales, greeting, monitor contest golf hole, selling mulligans & throws, stocking golf carts with water & golf balls, etc. ONLY SIX WEEKS TO GO! The next golf committee meeting is Tuesday, July 9th beginning at 5:30PM at the bookkeeper's home.

The club's annual Installation Dinner is this Saturday, June 22nd at Heritage Club Eagle Bend! Please RSVP to the Evite you received from Club Service Chair PP Terry Remigio! Terry asked everyone to pick a menu. The festivities begin at 6PM with cocktails followed by dinner. Karen and Alan Loeb will attend to personally present PP Craig Essex with his award. Please Note: No lunch meeting next Monday, June 24th following the Installation Dinner and no lunch meeting on Monday, July 1st.

The BRIEF Joint Board Meeting followed by DRINKS and DINNER(!) is scheduled for Thursday, June 27 beginning at 6PM at Talee's home (9006 E Evans Court, Denver 80231). PE Hugh Radke will present the 2019-20 budget. Please RSVP by email to Talee.

Prez Talee and PE Hugh Radke will be attending this year's final area Presidents" meeting this week.

PP Jeff Kaes says "I have the best friends" because thanks to your support, he has raised over $6,000 for the MS150! For 29 years Jeff has been riding his bike and raising $ for multiple sclerosis! Thanks Jeff for being our friend and for being a loyal advocate for the victims of MS!

THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM

Patricia Mason is a Sr. Program Specialist with the Aurora Office of Emergency Management and her presentation covered Community Emergency Preparedness. The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) leads the city of Aurora through any instance of a natural or manmade disaster or emergency through preparedness, response and recovery efforts. To that end, they create plans and programs that decrease the effects of emergencies or disasters while maintaining an all-hazard approach to planning, community education and emergency response coordination in the city. Planning includes having an Emergency Operations Plan, a Recovery Plan, Hazard Mitigation Planning and an Alert and Warning Plan. The EOC conducts monthly training, annual functional exercises and exercises with community organizations such as schools and hospitals.

The recovery provides mass care, sheltering, crime containment, food & water and financial considerations (looting). Mitigation lessens the force or intensity of something unpleasant through raising of homes in flood areas, flood plain mapping, enforcing new building codes, hazard mapping and reinforced tornado safe rooms.

The top ten most likely natural hazards in the city of Aurora are: 1. Hail, 2. Winter storm, 3. Lightning, 4. Tornado, 5. Extreme wind, 6. Flood, 7. Extreme Heat, 8. Drought, 9. Wildfire and 10. Dam/levee failure. Human caused emergencies include incendiary explosive devices, industrial accidents, mass shootings, terroism, transporation accidents and cyber attacks.

We would know if there was an emergency from the sirens (tornado, hazmat spills), weather radio stations and local TV, Facebook and Twitter. You can sign up for Everbridge Alerts using your phone number at AuroraGov.org/EmergencyAlerts.

Make emergency kits for your home, your office and your car(s). They should include dietary needs, medical needs (prescriptions/equipment), disability needs, cultural and religious considerations and needs for your pets or service animals. You must remember an emergency is everyone's emergency and be prepared that help may not arrive for 72 hours. Check on your neighbors, communicate your plans with friends and family and make your emergency kits.
