IMPACT STATEMENT
 Smoky Hill Rotarians are making an IMPACT and improving the lives of others in our community and worldwide by:
      SENDING 7 STUDENTS TO RYLA AND YOUNG RLYA THIS SUMMER
  Club News
This Rotary Year’s message is “CREATE LASTING IMPACT.”  Rotary International President Yinka Babalola’s message challenges Rotarians to focus on three things:
1.  On long-term, sustainable change and impact
2. To integrate deliberate peace-building into our projects
3. To allow our Rotary experiences to transform ourselves personally
 
At the kick-off meeting on July 13th, President Linda Forsythe stated that this year Smoky Hill Rotary will focus on IMPACT. We began at the Paul Harris honorees luncheon by sharing what their Paul Harris donation represented as far as local and world wide IMPACT.  This year, Linda will share an IMPACT statement at the end of each meeting of how Smoky Hill Rotarians are improving lives in our community and worldwide. These will also be included in the Bulletins as a reminder of the good we are doing.
 
Committee Reports:
At the July 13th Kick-off meeting, chairs of our different committees reported out:
1.  Jeff Kaes, Treasurer reported that this year’s budget is very lean.  All of our projects that are currently in place took hits to their budgets—International, Ronald MacDonald House, RYLA, Food Bank of the Rockies, scholarships, DAVA, etc.
2.  Clay Fell, Club Services Chair, reported that we will be doing a project for the Food Bank of the Rockies at the July 27th meeting making mesh bags.  Lunch will begin at 11:30 so as to give us enough time to make the bags. He is working on other social events for the year.
3.  Craig Essex, Youth Services Chair, reported out that we were able to send seven students to either RYLA or Young RYLA this summer (6 funded by Smoky Hill and 1 by another club he requested funds from).  He was able to attend Young RYLA for three days and lead the group in a leadership activity.  It was a very rewarding experience and the students were learning valuable lessons.
4.  Hugh Radke, Community/Vocational Service Chair, reported that we are giving out one scholarship for $750 this fall.  Applications are coming in soon.  Hugh wrote and is hoping to have a $3000 District 5450 grant funded.  If approved, this could help fund some of the projects that received budget cuts.  Also, we are moving forward with the “We Don’t Waste” project which only requires volunteers and no funding. 
5.  Foundation Chair, Lloyd Gottman was not present but Linda Forsythe reported that we will have our Second Annual Paul Harris Honoree Luncheon on Monday, February 22nd so be thinking of which non-Rotarians you would want to nominate this year.
6.  International Chair, Bev Edwards, was not able to be there due to being in re-hab because of a broken tibia and kneecap.  She reported to Linda about the following international projects that we are committed to for the 2026-27 Rotary year:  1.  Cluj/Romain project for urology and renal transplant equipment-$1000,  2.  Bulgaria medical equipment-$1000,  3.  Montenegro special education equipment-$1000, 4.  Uganda WASH project-$1000, 5.  Gambia community health center-$1000.
  
Youth and At-Risk Training:
All Rotary club are required to comply with the Youth and At-Risk policies to keep youth safer and give members clarity on those protections. All Annual Club Compliance Affirmation forms are due by August 20th from the Club President.  At the July 13th meeting, Linda Forsythe provided information on the essentials and the “NO, NOs.”
