President Dave Maxwell  opened today's meeting with thanks to Past Presidents Bill Maclay & Darryl Harvey for the great successes, past and present, of yet another stellar year giving a good start to the school year for 28 kids at Century Elementary.  Many members and their spouses attended this year's event and proclaimed it as one of the most endearing Smoky Hill projects.   President Dave has posted photos of this event on our website at http://portal.club runner/6789.  One must login as member to view these photos.   See more photos next week.

President Dave said that this is Membership Month, and in addition has proclaimed this Membership Year.   A good start for that is to invite golfers, potential members, spouses, and, of course, members to come to next MONDAY NIGHT's SOCIAL.   6p.m. The Aurora Summit first drink and appetizers free to all.

Past District Governor Talee Crowe thanked the 22 Rotarians who made this Golf Tournament the smoothest and best check-in so far.  She also reminded members to come and bring spouse and guests to Monday Night's social.

Past President Gary Frisch reminded Smokin' Hill Golfers that September 18th is "The Cup" Tournament.  (Wonder what is in that cup?)  Murphy Creek Golf Course.   See Gary if you have a hankerin' to se what's in that thar cup.
Smoky Hill Rotarians doing
a great job socializing!
Last but certainly not least Past Presidents Jeff Kaes and Gray Sarge (Gary Fletcher, Web Master, for those who don't know)have been busy photographing and updating our Website.  Photos from the golf tournament are now on the website.   Click on "photos" in the story on the home page of the 2015 Golf Tournament under the photo albums.  Gary says these are courtesy of  Dr. (and Past President II)Jeff Kaes.  He goes on to suggest sharing this information and links with anyone!   Not one to set about, Gray Sarge back at work completing and uploading to YouTube the revised 2015 version about SHRC.  Youtube URL is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i64p7mt uiI.  Gary goes on to say "Al had reviewed the PowerPoint that this comes from.   It should be something that we remind our members about...  People should be referred to our website to see it, not YouTube.  We should be fine with the music since it is royalty free.  Not as exciting as some rocking country song, but the[y]shut our previous video down because of rights infringement."     Thanks to Gary and Jeff for some great work!

Our speaker today was the 13th City of Aurora Chief of Police Nicholas "Nick" Metz.  Chief Metz outlined three Community Service Projects that are his priorities.  Fighting Crime leads the list followed by the reduction of fear and finally, and seemingly significant is Community Participation.   Chief Metz reported that he had not stepped into a "broken system" and was quite pleased with the response and responsibilities that Aurora Police
personnel have shown.   Aurora is now considered a major city with almost 350,000 residents covering 160 square miles and is quite diverse in ethnicity.  Chief Metz said he changed the internal structures of the Police Department for better use of personnel time and talents.   His handout "Initiatives for Enhancing Community Relations" pretty much sums up what this young man has in mind for this Department.  He did report one of the harder days he has had since coming to Colorado
was walking into an office full of Bronco paraphernalia     In closing Chief Metz appears to have already implemented several events that are in keeping with his stated projects.  A good start for any new leader.

Personal Note to Chief Metz:   For better community relations downplay the Seattle Sea Hawks in Denver Bronco Territory.
