August 2^nd we held our 9^th annual golf tournament at Aurora Common Ground Golf Course which over 130 golfers participated.  As the only fund raiser for the club, it is very important that the club makes it as successful as possible. This year was no different. Proceeds from green fees, raffle tickets, mulligans and throws, hole sponsors and team sponsors raised an amount of money that came very close to the record set last year. These proceeds will go to the Club Foundation for a four year scholarship and our annual clothing purchases at Walmart for the students at Century Elementary. The balance of the proceeds is used by the club in various projects through out the year. Sending students to Young RYLA, RYLA, funding international grant for the purchase of medical equipment, a scholarship at Pickens Tech, Habitat for Humanities and Ronald McDonald House are just some of the projects the club is involved during the year. This makes the golf tournament a very important fund raiser for the club. Thanks you all for your support, hard work and effort to make it a success. It takes the effort of all members to make this successful.

On August 15^th the club spent some of that money raised by the golf tournament. Under “Special Things For Special Kids” the club treated over 30 kids from Century Elementary to a day at Walmart purchasing clothes and school supplies. Each child and parent was accompanied by a Smoky Hill Rotarian as they chose outfits and clothing for their kids. Check out was picked up by the club which left many parents very thankful and teary-eyed for what just happened. It was a great feeling to see a child start the school year with a uniform and shoes that they could be proud of. While the turnout was not as many as expected at the end club members went shopping for uniforms for the school to give to those in need during the school year. This maybe the best hands on project the club does during the year that exemplifies “Service above Self”. Thanks to all that spent their Saturday morning helping kids at Century Elementary find clothes for the new school year.

As a very important month in the new Rotary year we did a great job of starting the year off with a bang. Thank you for your effort each and everyone of you.
