A heart-felt congratulations to Susan for winning the Dare to Soar Award! Here is an overview of her nomination and the outstanding contribution that she makes to Rocky Mountain Health Services:
Susan Michalakes' Nomination Overview
Susan has been employed in positions helping clients diagnosed with IDD in a variety of positions for over 3.5 decades. She has worked as a Supervisor, Floater, and now as a Service Coordinator with RMHS for over 7 years. Susan recently received an email from a Director, who employs clients with IDD’s, about her contributions as a Service Coordinator. This Director wrote that Susan’s consistency, knowledge, and promptness continue to impress her. She noted that Susan is present and invested in the continued success of our employee and likely others on her caseload.
She has helped solve a transportation problem by brainstorming solutions, sending out referrals, gathering information about resources, and reporting back to the team. She continued that Susan is “the gold star of service coordination” and deserves recognition for the level of care she provides.
Overall, Susan approaches her work with a client-centered approach. She shares her knowledge, experience, and insights to help inspire her peers to keep a client’s best interest at heart. She is supportive of new hires by helping answer questions and offering shadowing opportunities.
In December of 2020, she informed Ice Team that she is an avid knitter and offered to mail a shawl, cowl, scarf, or hat to any of her peers who express interest in one of her creations. Susan often shares success stories with the Mill Levy team on how funding has made a positive difference in clients lives. She is creative in finding solutions to problems, communicating with teams, and being consistently available to help. Susan assisted with the COVID Vaccine Project by working overtime to contact clients in Service Coordination and SEP about whether they are vaccinated and sharing resources. She has offered to assist with meeting coverage, other team needs, and shares endearing photos and stories to help celebrate the positive milestones of her clients.
Susan’s work has been a representation of the RMHS mission of: Embracing the power of community to support individuals and families in creating their future.
Smoky Hill Rotary is proud that Susan represents the same values of service through Rotary.
Congratulations, Susan! You make us all proud!
Celebration of the Week: Wednesday, April 28th - National Superhero Day
Get your cape or your uniform on! April 28 is National Superhero Day, honoring all heroes, whether they are real or fictional. Heroes are people we look up to, who inspire us and keep us safe. They are role models for children and teach them values and kindness. For some, superheroes are those we grew up with, Superman, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and others. But in real life, superheroes are those who go above and beyond to do good for others, whether they are nurses, police officers, firemen, doctors, volunteers, or teachers. Anyone can be a hero if they make their goal to do good in the world. Today we celebrate the superheroes of our childhood and imagination, and the heroes of real life, who keep us all safe.
How to Celebrate?
- Dress up. This day is the perfect excuse to dress up as your favorite superhero. Throw a cosplay party with your other superhero loving friends, or go out with your children all dressed up to encourage them to do good deeds in their superhero suit.
- Watch your favorite superhero movie or read your favorite comics. With the expansion of the superhero universe these past few years you are spoilt for choice. Grab some popcorn and relieve the best action shots of all the superheroes you love.
- Honor the real heroes in your life. Whether you thank them for all they do, surprise them with a gift, or dedicate a social media post to them, just remember that this day is about them too.
- Know that you too can be a superhero. If you do good, help others, and keep a positive attitude, you are sure to inspire people around you and become their hero.
