Just to state the obvious-this club does one fundraiser per year. That is what funds all of our projects. Without those funds there are none of the international projects bringing medical equipment, clean water, etc. to people around the world; there are no young people going the RYLA and Young RYLA; there is no Special Things For Special Kids shopping event for the kids at Jewell Elementary; there are no contributions to Food Bank of the Rockies and the other organizations we support. We are a little over 30 days out from our annual golf event. So far we have 30 golfers. We have had 80 or so golfers the last couple of years so there is work to be done to get to that number this year.
Raffle item donations are needed. We can use gift certificates for golf; gift baskets (wine, dessert, etc.), hotel accommodation certificates, new golf equipment, tickets to sporting events, etc. Please no used items, but otherwise if it is something your would like to get in a raffle, chances are someone else will like it too. Contact Hugh Radke or Gary Frisch if you have any questions or to offer a donation.

The Celebration of Life for James Fletcher will be on Thursday, July 16th at 10:00 am at Horan and McConaty Mortuary’s Rocky Mountain Memorial Park, 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, 80014. Immediately following, we will gather and continue James’ Celebration of Life at Zane’s Italian Bistro, 3535 S. Yosemite St.
July 27th Program at 11:30
For his speaker assignment, Clay Fell has put together a special hands-on program for us in conjunction with the Food Bank of the Rockies. So that we have enough time, we are going to start lunch at 11:30. We will then transition to having fun making mesh food bags for fresh fruit and vegetables to go out to the Food Bank mobile pantries. Also, please bring in non-perishable items to help the Food Bank during the summer months.
Expanding Global Connections Through New Rotary Intercountry Committees (ICC)
Intercountry Committees (ICC) are Rotary-sponsored partnerships between districts in different countries that promote international understanding, friendships, cultural exchange, and collaborative service projects. District 5450 is joining the USA-Romania ICC, with our very own BEV EDWARDS serving as the district-liaison. Thank you Bev for representing Smoky Hill on a District 5450 committee!
Companion Club in Heritage Eagle Bend
Smoky Hill is exploring forming a companion club in Heritage Eagle Bend (a retirement community in Aurora). Members would be a satellite under Smoky Hill Rotary and would establish their own meeting times, projects, and social events but could also participate in Smoky Hill activities. We are hosting an informational/ interest meeting on Monday, August 3rd at 4:00 at the Heritage Eagle Bend Clubhouse. We would love to have other Smoky Hill Rotarians along with Linda Forsythe, Betsy Jansen, and Skip Arms to share the excitement of adding to our membership.
