From The President & Past President-Golf Fundraiser

A number of Rotary members are unable to attend a meeting on July 25. Therefore, the date was changed to August 1. This is the final meeting before the fundraising golf tournament on August 5. We will talk about our responsibilities as a Club member at this meeting. Our Club decided a few years ago to have one fundraising event each year. This has been a premier event in past years and enjoyed by all participants. Golf numbers are down from last year. Last report showed 74 golfers. Let’s make it happen again this year.

Raffle Items Needed-

An integral part of the Golf Fundraiser is the raffle. We need items to raffle off! Some suggestions:

Gift baskets are a big item. Make your own or contribute items to be assembled into baskets. Wine and wine related items are always a welcome donation.
Gift certificates to hotels and restaurants.
Gift certificates to golf courses.

You can contact Hugh Radke (Talee Crowe is recovering from surgery) for any questions or ideas for great auction items. She will be in charge of assembling gift baskets, etc. but will accept help if offered.

PP Jeff Kaes shared with the Club Board that Talee has a long recovery ahead of her due to her recent shoulder surgery. She may be in need of assistance. If you can help, please reach out to Talee and ask how you can be of service to her.

STSK with Jewell Elementary Coming to a Walmart Near You

The 21st annual Special Things For Special Kids shopping event is coming soon! Please put August 21, 9:00 am on your calendars. We as Smoky Hill Rotarians will help kids for Jewell Elementary School buy school clothes that they otherwise could not afford. It is a great time to ask friends, family members and people interested in Rotary to come see what Rotarians do. More details will follow in the next couple of weeks.

Polio Plus Update

"The following is from the latest Polio update. The last case is extremely difficult to prevent."

• WILD POLIO VIRUS, TYPE 1 (WPV1) - Unfortunately two more new cases of WPV1 were reported last week in Pakistan, with the latest occurring on May 27th, bringing their total count of WPV1 cases to 10 as of January 1st. They both occurred in the Khyber Pukhtunkhwa area, the same area where the other 8 Pakistan cases were reported.

TWENTY-SIX The number of days since the last case of WPV1 occurred in Pakistan (May 27th).

EIGHTY-NINE The number of days since the last case of WPV1 occurred in Mozambique (March 25th).

ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY The number of days since the last case of WPV1 occurred in Afghanistan (January 14th).

SIX - The total number of cases of WPV1 that occurred in 2021 (1 in Pakistan, 1 in Malawi, and 4 in Afghanistan).

ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY - The total number of cases of WPV1 that occurred in 2020.

ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-SIX - The total number of cases of WPV1 that occurred in 2019.
