The golf tournament was a huge success for Smoky Hill Rotary! A special thank you to every member who got up before the sun to be at Common Ground by 6 AM. Everything was in place for the first golfers arriving before 7 AM. The course was in good shape, the golfers were cheerful, the burritos were tasty and the sun was hot. It was a perfect golf day.
Another special thank you to the members of the golf committee. The tournament was well organized and the pace of play was excellent. The crew at Common Ground had everything in place for us to be good hosts. Breakfast and lunch service was good. My golf group had a good time and talked about returning next year.
I enjoyed seeing former members of our Club joining us for the day. We hope they miss us and will return to the Club.
Finally, we will still accept donations. If you know someone who thought about making a contribution, contact them to let them know we will welcome their donation.
REMINDER: No meeting Monday. Our next meeting on Zoom is August 16.

Celebration of the Week: International Youth Day - Thursday, August 12, 2021
International Youth Day is a United Nations holiday whose aim is to raise awareness to the issues that many children and teenagers face around the world, especially those affected by poverty who can't get access to an appropriate education. But it is also a day to celebrate young people and the role that they can play in changing the world to make it a better place. They are the future after all, and it is crucial that they feel supported while growing up.
The theme of International Youth Day 2021 is, “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”, with the aim of highlighting that the success of such a global effort will not be achieved without the meaningful participation of young people.
How to Celebrate?
Celebrate the International Youth Day On 12 August by joining the United Nations webinar: https://www.un.org/development/desa/youth/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2021/08/IYD-SAVE-THE-DATE.pdf
The event will explore the role that youth can play to achieve more equitable and sustainable food systems, building on the recommendations of 2021 ECOSOC Youth Forum.
Through a unique dialogue among youth working in this space and stakeholders from different walks of life, the webinar will promote innovation, knowledge exchange, and youth engagement by continuing the momentum to the high-level United Nations Food Systems Summit in September.
The webinar is structured around different roundtables, designed to boost interactions among the participants. The different segments will focus on specific topics that fall under the overarching theme of Transforming Food Systems, including: planetary health, nutrition, health, education, innovation, and Indigenous youth.
