Past President II Jeff Kaes announced a Celebration of Life for Gary Fletcher for Monday, October 19th at 12:10p.m. It will be held at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home on the corner of Dartmouth and Parker Road in Aurora.   Jeff reports since we've been seeing Gary at 12:10, Mondays since 1982 we ought to meet one more time with him at Rotary.   Jeff cautions that Gary's son, James, is very fragile so do refrain from hugging him and other physical shows of affection and condolences.  James has seen many family tragedies in the past 6 years: his twin brother, his mother and now his father.  Jeff asked us to keep James in our prayers, and indeed we must and I recommend for many moons to come.   It usually is much more frightening and much harder a bit further from the initial event.    Nevertheless, I digress and return to Jeff's remarks which are:   All are invited to attend the Celebration and a reception will follow also on the Horan and McConaty grounds.  Past District Governor Talee Crowe and Past President Terry Remigio and Jeff are putting together a program.  As they knew Gary so well and for so many years, we can only expect it to be spectacular.
Past President Joe Hughes flashing dollars collected and winning tickets as he substituted for absent Sgt.@ Arms Past President Jim Wingert.

Board Meeting will be canceled for this month.   As Past President Bev Edwards says:   I don't think I've gotten my had around Gary's passing.

Dr. Jonathan Woodcock, MD currently serves as Assistant Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry, Clinical Director of the U. of Colorado Hospital's Memory Disorders Clinic, and, Clinical Director of the Rocky Mountain Alzheimer's Disease Center.   Dr. Woodcock's spoke to us was due to his directorship of clinical research in dementia which includes medication trials in Alzheimer's disease, cognitive and functional deficits in adults with Downs syndrome and so on.   The current trials have been going on for a short period with the hopes of funding to continue.   He states that over 5 million people in the United States have Alzheimer's.  By the way Alois Alzheimer was a German who lived from 1864 to 1915 and saw his first Alzheimer's patient in 1901.  Dr. Woodcock reports that there is no known curative treatment, however, there are medications that can retard the process by some two to three years.  University of Colorado and Baylor are two places that trial studies are currently underway.  He had interesting facts regard the correlation of Down's Syndrome and Alzheimer's as well as the lack of Alzheimer's components in Rheumatoid Arthritis patients.

Mike Peterson sent this after last newsletter was published:  "We will all miss our Dear Friend "The Gray Sarge" as many of you have already said.  I met Gary in 1983 when I joined the Smoky Hill Rotary Club and he has been a Great Friend these past 32 years!!!  He was always there for me to ask him computer questions and any other questions that I had.  You are now at Peace Gary and in God's hands!!!  The only justification I can come up with is that God needed your helping hand with some of his computer problems.  fix them al Fletch!!!  We Love 'ya Man!!    Michael and Gale"
