My first paying job was as a secretary for my father, a Denver trial attorney.  I was a good typist so I worked for him typing legal documents at home when I was in high school.  During college I worked in food service, behind the cafeteria line, where I learned the never fail method of opening jars.  While an upperclass student at Colorado College, I worked behind the front desk at a residence hall.  For several summers during college I was employed as secretary for the summer law clerks at a large Denver law firm, Holland & Hart.

 

After graduating from Colorado College, I went on to the University of Denver Law School evening division.  For the first three years of law school, I worked as an estate planning and probate paralegal at Holland & Hart during the day and attended law school at night.  The last year of law I was employed by an oil shale company in Boulder (it was a potentially blossoming industry at that time).  After obtaining my law degree I went on to work for Mobil Oil Company in the environmental division for coal and oil shale.

 

Needless to say, the mid 1980’s were not a good time for those wanting to work in the oil shale or environmental fields.  After a brief stint with a small firm focusing on legislative law, I ended up with the firm I am at today.  Since 1985, partners, attorneys and staff have come and gone, and the firm name has undergone numerous changes.  However, throughout all of these transitions, my association with my law partner, Dwight Taylor, has remained constant.  We have practiced law together now for almost 20 years.  Dwight’s practice focuses on wills, estate planning, probate and general small business representation.  I practice in the areas of real estate and commercial litigation.
