Special Thanks to Kristen Stevens for filling in as our Program Speaker at last week's regular club meeting.  As President of the YMSL Round Rock Chapter she shared the their Mission and Basic Pillars of the organization.

 

It got me thinking that the YMSL and Rotary had more in common than we might have thought.  While the YMSL is made up of young men (9th-12th graders and their mom's), service is at their core.  Rotary's Motto:  Service Above Self.

 

YMSL Mission:  To assist, serve, and support those who are in need in our community, develop leadership skills among our membership, and promote mother-son relationships.  Their basic pillars: Commitment to the Program, Service Hours supporting approved philanthropies, Every member has a job that rotates annually, Meetings and opportunities to develop and grow learn new skills.

 

Often times overlooked yet at the core of Rotary:  The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

When we look at the 5 Avenues of Service. Rotary shares Community Service with YMSL: Comprises varied efforts that members make, sometimes in conjunction with others, to improve the quality of life of those who live within this club’s locality or municipality by striving for positive peace in the community. 

 

YMSL and Rotary share many of the same benefactors:  Backpack Friends, Partners in Education Foundation, Round Rock Area Serving Center, Senior Access, Special Olympics Texas, Texas Baptist Children’s Home, YMCA–Williamson County among others.

 

Rotary and YMSL really do have a lot in common, more than one might have thought and we both share Kristen Stevens as a key member of our organizations!  Thank you Kristen!
