The speaker today was past-president Jeanne Kegebein, CEO of the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds Foundation. The Fairgrounds are home to two non-profit organizations: The Foundation and the Ag History Project which is headed by husband John Kegebein. There are about 350 separate events held there each year. There is no money from the state to help support the Fairgrounds, hence the need for the Foundation to raise funds for it; since 2002, about $2.5 million has been provided by the Foundation for the Fair. Some of the improvements by the Foundation have been outdoor lighting, new benches, various renovations of buildings and water storage tanks.
