Childrens Holiday Shop 2015
San Lorenzo Valley Children's Holiday Shop
On Saturday, December 12th, the San Lorenzo Valley Rotary Club had their first Children's Holiday Shop. Our goal was to provide the children with a chance to appreciate the gift of giving. With the help of Valley Churches United we had 5 children to participate. We met at K-Mart and each child was paired up with a team consisting of a Rotarian and Interact member, or a friend of Rotary.
The children arrived with a list to help with their shopping for family, teachers and friends. Each team was given a $100 gift card and the team worked together to shop for the items on the list while keeping in budget. We had 7 Rotarians, 1 soon to be Rotarian, 1 friend of Rotary and 4 Interact members all working to provide a wonderful day for the children.
When everyone had finished shopping we all went down to the Felton Presbyterian Church where the teams helped the children with wrapping all the gifts while having some snacks. Just as the wrapping was finishing, everyone heard jingle bells and suddenly Santa appeared and he gave hugs and thanked the children for being a Santa helper. Santa then went up on the stage and called each child up to sit on his lap and to receive a stocking filled with special gifts for them. The parents were able to take pictures of their children with Santa.
Everyone had pizza and cookies for lunch and then each family went home with a bag full of gifts for Christmas morning. It was hard to tell who had more fun, the children, the parents or the Rotarians.
Thank you to K-Mart for providing a discount, Felton Presbyterian Church for the use of their facility, Valley Churches United, and all the Rotarians and Interact members who made for a very special day.
