Last Week in Rotary...

Our speaker last week was Kris Chan who provided an informative presentation on Homeowners' Insurance and what homeowners should be aware of regarding the amount of insurance one should have and the pitfalls when under-insured. Kris shared at the end of his presentation that he only provide "Part 1", and that there is additional information for him to share. Maybe a Newark Rotarian will relinquish their speaker time so Kris and provide Part 2.

This Week in Rotary...

Upcoming Events...

10/2 - NEXT MEETING: District Governor's Visit
On October 2nd, District 5170 Governor, Mr. Timothy Lundell will visit our Newark Rotary Club. As you will remember, attendance at this important meeting is mandatory.  Joining the District 5170 Governor will be Jim Bell, Assistant District Governor.

10/5 - Poker Party
On October 5th, Newark Rotary will have its 2nd Annual Poker Party at Casa/Officina Sharma - 5619 Moores Avenue in Newark, starting at 7:00 pm. Those planning to attend the Poker Party event can sign up at the next meeting to bring appetizers, nibbles, wine or all 3!

Nancy Thomas has mentioned an interest to incorporate our 2nd annual poker party as an End Polio Now event. I'm sure she will have more to say about her idea at our next meeting.

10/9 - Club Assembly
On October 9th Newark Rotary will have their Club Assembly, at which the proposed changes in Newark Rotary's Constitution and Bylaws will be discussed and hopefully decided.

10/16 - Club Meeting
On October 16th, Club member Lety Salinas will ensure that the speaker on that day will speak on a very interesting and engaging topic.

10/23 - Board Meeting
On October 23rd, the Newark Board of Directors will meet at 11:00 AM, prior to our regular meeting at the 880 Bistro.

10/23 - 2nd Organizational Crab Feed Meeting
On October 23rd we will have our 2nd Organizational Crab Feed Meeting at our regular lunch meeting.

10/24 - World Polio Day
On October 24, Rotary International will again mark World Polio Day. All Rotary Clubs are asked to raise awareness of the urgent need to End Polio Now. As of today, only 14 children have been paralyzed by the wild polio-virus in all of 2018. This wild virus still circulates in only one remaining area, on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Past President Nancy Thomas is working with other Newark Rotarians to identify how Newark Rotary Club could raise awareness of the need to End Polio Now.

Reminders...

1. John Becker reminded Club Members to bring in their Crab Feed ticket money. The Club needs to have a cash reserve to purchase needed supplies and equipment . . . . we only have 48 days until the event.

2. Belinda Maloney want Club members to bring in their Crab Feed raffle and auction items, or money as soon as possible. They can be brought to a Newark Rotary meeting or taken directly to Nancy Thomas' home. Please contact Nancy in advance to make sure she will be home to receive them.

President's Corner...

Judy and I spent Sunday attending Fremont Rotary's Octoberfest fundraiser at Das Brew in Fremont. The weather was cooler than hoped, but the event was well attended.

See you a the next meeting!
