Gail and I are deeply involved in some carefully selected improvements around the homestead. The major project going on right now is replacement of galvanized piping with copper.
Lonzo Caves and his team are doing the heavy lifting and digging and pounding and soldering and . . .
The fact that we would finally have good plumbing, and rust-free water prompted us to take on a parallel project of replacing ceramic tile and the nasty enameled sink with a decent counter top and stainless steel sink.
Our part was a full, hard weekend of work plus part of Friday and some bodywork for recovery on Monday. Lonzo and crew still have a few more days for their work.
In the end, we'll have a much nicer kitchen, water pressure throughout the house, and water that doesn't leave rust stains if allowed to build up over time.
Final resolution will be the result of a team effort. Cecilia at Lowes helped us get the counter top. I don't know how many people were involved at the counter top fabricator. Steve and others at Dale Hardware helped me get exactly what I needed to hook up my temporary plumbing under the sink. Gail was there to swing a hammer, turn a screwdriver, hand me the right tool, question my thoughts on how to proceed, check my measurements and mop up more than one spill. Lonzo brought three more people to the team. There are at least two people in the city handling the permit and inspections. I can't possibly identify everyone who will have contributed to the success of this project.
Like this plumbing project, our Rotary club is undertaking a major project to raise money for local charities. The number of team members that work toward achieving a successful crab feed is huge. Many of us know exactly what we need to contribute to achieve success. Some of our newer members will be guided through their first, second or third crab feed. Within a few yearly cycles, they will know where their contributions of time and effort have the biggest impact.
On another level, the development, growth and leadership of our club as a whole is a team effort. Every one of us contributes in one way or another. It takes all of us doing our individual parts to ensure that the club, and the Newark Rotary Foundation are on a solid footing.
We are nearly half-way through this Rotary year, and our crab feed will come up very soon after the holidays. That leaves a only a few months to finish out the year with the club and Foundation in better shape than ever. With all of us pulling our weight and working as a team, we can move into the next Rotary year with confidence in our ability to grow Rotary leaders and continue to host crab feeds and serve our community far into the future.
