Once again Dazzle was a resounding success!  Our hard work earned the Club Endowment an all-time high of over $58,000.  The sponsorships brought in $37,000.  The Showcase raffle, Sipping for Diamonds and the additions to the Showcase this year earned $10,000.  The live auction garnered $18,600.
First and foremost, a huge thank you to Clos laChance Winery for donating the venue once again.  They have been more than generous over the years.  In fact, this year they donated a tour and tasting to our Wine Tour and Tasting live auction item.
Your Dazzle committee was very concerned about the weather forecast which was well below what it’s been in past years and with the wind kicking up relentlessly we ordered heaters which saved the day.
Our auctioneer, Roger Malech did his usual great job garnering a total of $18,600 thanks to Cera Malech, Roger’s wife who was a ‘bidding fool’ and Serena Malech, Roger’s mother.  I thought at times that he was ignoring both of them!  The 2 of them prevailed winning the oil painting and a dinner for 8 people.
Rotarian Ken Murray donated a dinner for 8 at his home which sold for $2,950.  There were 4 lodgings auctioned off, one in Buenos Aires and 2 more local as well as a stay at a B&B.   We had a total of 3 dinners at private homes, a Scotch tasting, Giants tickets and a stay in San Francisco.  We were able to offer a golf foursome at Cordevalle this year.  Our wine tour and tasting was well received. The wine barrel full of 90 bottles of wine was won by one of my guests, that’s how I know the exact number of bottles!
Some of our showcases differed this year causing excitement and yippee, the selling of more tickets.  Thanks to creator, Rachel Hill our intrepid Chair, we had a “unique” showcase which was 2 chairs and a table made out of wine barrels and a fire pit shaped like a miniature Volkswagen van. We decided we would sell separate tickets for $20 each, selling just 100 tickets.  Rumor has it that Don Larkin really wanted it and guess what, he won it.
Another contrasting showcase was 2 items, each containing  7- $100 gift certificates for local Morgan Hill restaurants and 4 dinner and show tickets for the new Granada Theatre in one package.  In the other package there were 6 - $100 gift certificates for local restaurants and a $200 gift certificate to Morton’s Steak House and a bottle of wine.
One of our Rotarians won both of these.  Stand up Tom Fry.  I told him he should buy a lottery ticket on the way home.  Now everyone wants to be his new best friend!  Another of my guests won the ‘flowers’ for a year, delivered monthly, she was ecstatic
All of the 100 tickets for the “Sipping for Diamonds” portion of the night were sold.  The winner was very delighted.
Our entertainment “a la The Rat Pack”, Frank, Dean and Marilyn charmed all in attendance.  They sang, mimicked and simply showed us a good time.
