Sierra Mae LaMar was last seen at approximately 6:00 a.m. on March 16, 2012, in the area of Santa Teresa Avenue and Dougherty Avenue in Morgan Hill, California. At that time, Ms. LaMar, who was a 15 year old student at Ann Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill, was preparing to leave her home on foot on her way to catch the bus to school. Sierra never made it to the bus or school that morning and has not been heard from since that time.  Despite her body not being found, Antolin Garcia-Torres was arrested and charged with the kidnap and murder of Sierra LaMar.  Mr. Garcia-Torres was also charged with trying to kidnap three women in the parking lots of two Morgan Hill Safeway stores in three separate incidents dating back to 2009.  On May 9, 2017, Antolin Garcia-Torres was convicted on all four counts.  Although the prosecution requested the death penalty in this case, on June 5, 2017, the same jury that convicted Mr. Garcia-Torres recommended that he be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Since 1992, Eric Mindling (TraditionsMexico.com + EricMindling.com) has lived in Oaxaca, Mexico working with traditional artisans, researching and creating markets for indigenous pottery, writing articles and books about pottery and textiles, forming an exhibit highlighting indigenous pottery and knowledge, running a cultural tour company and doing photography that shares the strength of these people and their ways.

Eric has two books to his credit...Fire and Clay: The Art of Oaxacan Pottery, a panoramic vision of the past, present and future of Oaxacan pottery. And his newest work...Oaxaca Stories in Cloth which includes more than 175 sensitive, intimate, full-color portraits of traditional people of the Oaxacan hinterlands who continue to wrap themselves in the clothing that expresses their ancient, living culture. This book has earned Eric two very prestigious awards: 2017 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Awards, Gold, Multicultural and 2017 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Awards, Silver, Art & Photography.

Eric's work has always been driven by a respect and admiration of traditional people and the quiet wisdom of their ways. “Without trying they teach us things we truly need to know, things that we forgot so long ago we don’t even know they’re gone.”
