· Angie Hassler evoked words of gratitude and encouragement for many achievements by Rotary Club of Freedom in 2013-14
· Jon Winston presented certificate of appreciation to Carl Pimentel for his work as club treasurer. Also Jon presented certificate of achievement to Ron Sandidge as president of our club
· Trail construction at Watsonville Wetlands Watch on Saturday, June 28 from 9:00 AM – 12 noon
· Presidential Demotion dinner party at Fairgrounds in Agricultural History Project Center and Museum Saturday, June 28 from 6:00 PM
· Firework sales are July 1 – 4 – see Heather Geddes to sign up for a couple of shifts. This is an important fundraiser for our club.
· Rich Persoff donated two tickets to the Santa Cruz Shakespeare Festival, these were auctioned for $50 a piece with proceeds to our club
· Heather announces that the public library issues a an eBook Challenge – call library for details.
· Watsonville Band invites community to an old fashioned picnic and concert at the home of Sam & Terry Wright, 565 Edenvale Lane in Watsonville on Saturday, July 19, 4:30 PM
· Katie reminds us to be sure you buy a $100 raffle ticket for a chance to win One Hotel Holiday, a trip for two to Tuscany October 28 – November 5. Prize includes round trip airfare, 7 breakfasts, 3 dinners, excursions to regional sites. Only 300 tickets are being sold.
· Doug is working with other Area 7 Rotary clubs to attend a selected play, part of new summer theatre festival Santa Cruz Shakespeare. Performances run July 1 – August 10.
Detective: Dave Kegebein fines Angie Hassler her largest fine of the year $10 and matching fine to President Ron; Gloria $5 for going to see fairy tale in new film, Malificient; John $5 for going to another film without the women in the Monday Night at the Movies group; $5 Alex for being a new father; Trina $5 “just because”; Steve $5 for handing out business cards promoting to people in need food available at Second Harvest Food Bank; Danny $5 for being a successful business man and accepting aforementioned card from Steve; Katie $5 for not letting new branch manager come to lunch; Doug $5 for upcoming participation in annual Cannonball Run motorcycle event. Ron Ince gets a ‘free pass’ from the detective for being present and prepared at today’s meeting - - and being more successful selling water than selling car fuel.
Raffle: Ron Ince had prizes for Doug [water bottle], Joe Perez [t-shirt], Lynn [water bottle], Steve [t-shirt], Ben [civil defense cassette], Angie [golf balls].
Program feature:
Speaking with us today about Cyber crime is Detective Joe Perez of the Watsonville Police Dept. who has been with WPD for five years, assigned to investigations bureau, white collar crime. Joe is from San Jose, earned a degree in criminal justice from San Jose State University.
· Property theft is highest area of crime in city
· Burglary leads to credit card theft, which leads to cyber identity theft
· Be aware of what is going on in your neighborhood
· Have a plan for long term future and end of life to avoid arguments within family
