 - Tom H.: annual Social BBQ with Watsonville Rotary is Wednesday, August 6 starting at 5:30 PM at the fairgrounds next to the Agricultural History Foundation Building

 - Kathy M.: Thanks the Freedom and Watsonville Rotary Clubs for international grant funding for The Pemako Health Initiative.She also announced a fund raising event for the nonprofit. She is looking for someone to host a masters student that will be working with her for the months of October and November.

 - Doug F.: Shakespeare Santa Cruz is taking place at UCSC through August 10. John Skinner said he would go on Sunday, August 10th

 - Vince G. noted he’d announce three new blue badgers at next week’s meeting.

Guest Speaker: Michelle Kincaid, spoke about “Taking a Year On,” volunteering in Lima, Peru. Michelle is the former Area 10 Interact Director while she was a student at Santa Cruz High. She spent a year in Lima between high school and college. She worked with Building Dignity, an organization that provides educational activities opportunities in Lima, Peru, a city where 75% of the population is living in poverty.

Michelle spent time working with mostly young children while volunteering in Lima. Highlights included math tutoring and teaching music class. Her opportunity came through The Omprakash Foundation: “Connecting volunteers, classrooms and communities.” Online network for volunteers and grassroots organizations to connect. They focus on four things: building trust, fundraising support, education, affordable opportunities. An Omprakash Ambassador Travel Grant supported Michelle’s work. Education through Global Engagement (EdGE) is an online training program to help prepare people for international volunteering activities. They provide a one-on-one mentor and a multi-disciplinary approach to training.
