Thought of Day: Mark Myers read about several world and national events that took place on this day in history. 

Guests: Trina’s guest was Nellie Hertzog;  Celine, daughter of today’s speaker. Celine is a new graduate of Scotts Valley High School. She was an Interact participant. Celine will continue on to UCSC this fall.

Announcements & Correspondence:

- New Blue Badge Freedom Rotarians - Patsy Gasca, Jeannie Kegebein, Lynne Grossi, Steve Bennett.  Congratulations to all four.

- Trina reminded members that a set number of lunches are being paid for every week. Better attendance at Tuesday meetings is encouraged. 

- 2014 Rotary Family Day at the A's Sign up sheet was passed around. 

            Saturday September 20th  1pm game against the Philly’s

            Gates open at 10:00 for tailgate parties.  Lunch provided from 11:00-12:30

 Tickets now on sale through August 25th. This benefits our Interact Leadership Camp RYLA. Tickets are on a first come first serve basis

Raffle: Kathy Morrow brought several gourmet chocolate bars. Winners were Paul T, Nellie (guest), Doug, Mark M. 

ProgramSpeaking with us today is Wei Wei (pronounced WAY WAY), former engineering librarian at UCSC.  Ms. Wei described her experience during her youth during the Cultural Revolution in China. She also described the diversity of nationalities in the work force, especially in Silicon Valley which she pointed out is our nearby neighbor. Wei Wei’s memoir, “Tracing Our Footsteps”, has been published. Copies were on display at today’s lunch.
