District 5170 Events

Richard D King Speech Contest
Many youth accept this challenge to prepare and present a speech that is based on our Rotary theme and incorporating the Rotary 4-way test. The participants who place in the individual club contests move on to the area contest and continue if selected to advance to the regional and district contests. Each level has monetary awards that can be used to help further the students’ educational needs. Many clubs members look forward to the meetings our youth deliver these motivational speeches, furthering our belief in our future leaders.

Interact 5170 (youth club for ages 12 - 18)
We have ~115 Interact clubs in our District, including ~10 at our local Junior High Schools. There are over 7000 active Interactors who come together as one team to complete over 70,000 hours of community service and fundraise close to $100,000 annually for their International Project.

Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA)
Our district is able to provide a weeklong leadership camp for our teens. This program leaves a lasting impression on all that attend and can be witnessed by their testimonials and those of their parents. The RYLA campers attend leadership workshops, participate in pay-it-forward activities and learn more about themselves while bonding with the other campers.

Youth Exchange
Our short and long term exchange programs offer a tremendous opportunity for our youth. Our teens gain the opportunity to be one with another culture, grow in their maturity and confidence, learn another language, forge lifelong friendships and learn about themselves as they embrace the broadening of their view of the world.

ELC (entrepreneurial learning program)
This program targets high school juniors. Participating students are taught the basics for entrepreneurial development along with a full range of principles for developing a fully functioning company for an idea. The District has 4 ELC programs.
