“Celebrate the Past, Create the Future” was the theme for the 2018 Rotary District 5170 Conference held in San Jose from June 1 - 3, 2018.  Some of our members attended the event: Charlsie, Amy, Ravi, Will, Bridget, Sobha, and Ramesh.  There was dinner at the Tech Museum of Innovation, Workshops at SJSU, and Rotary Community Day at various locations in San Jose (painting and rebuilding a homeless shelter, packing life-saving meals, and beatifying the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden).

Some of the featured speakers were Richard D. King (Past President Rotary International) and Paul K. Chappell (Author and Peace Scholar).  At the workshops, there was Krazy George Henderson and MediaWorks (Cogswell College).  At the luncheon, we sang with the Dream Achievers Band (musicians with Autism) and listened to a powerful speech by Ginger Semko, Speech Contest Finalist.  At the House of Friendship, we were entertained by Music at the Mission Chamber Players and had snacks, desserts, and drinks at the Hospitality Suites.

The Mercury News covered Rotary Community Day and wrote an article.  Our very own Bridget Grant was interviewed!  Click here to read the article, “Volunteers Step Up for Rotary Club Service Day” by Joseph Geha.
