Welcome to the Rotary Club of East Palo Alto Bayshore

We're a leadership organization of local business, professional, and civic leaders.  We meet regularly, get to know each other, form friendships, and through that, we're able to get things done in this community.  Contact us if you wish to attend one of our meetings.  Visitors are welcome!

Mouse and the Career Technical Education Model

Juanita Croft is a long standing resident of the Belle Haven/east Menlo Park neighborhood.  She is Program Specialist for Mouse_ California Student Tech Leadership program.

Juanita has worked at Foothill College for more than 38 years.  Her career included instructional computer lab coordination and management for the Computers, Technology and Information Systems (CTIS) Division.  After retiring in 2003, Juanita looked for ways to bring her expertise and experiences to the communities of East Palo Alto and Belle Haven. This included doing part-time tech work, providing tech training to teachers, parents and families and participating in several non-profit tech projects.  In 2007, Juanita was hired as a Program Coordinator for Mouse_California, a state-wide student tech leadership program. In this role, she continued to fulfill her interest in finding ways to reduce the Digital Divide and increase student success in her communities.  She continues to promote the Career Technical Education (CTE) model by advocating for the expansion of CTE to improve the career and college success of children in East Palo Alto and Belle Haven.  She sees acquiring technology skills as an important asset for that success.

Club Stories & News
October 7, 2017 -- Every year our Rotary Club partners with Goodwill of Silicon Valley for a Recycling and Donation event.  We help residents get rid of their electronics safely and items no longer needed are recycled or sold back in Goodwill's retail store.  This is also a fundraising event for our club.  Goodwill of Silicon Valley gives us a check based on the total weight of the donated items we receive that day.

What a month for disasters from Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria plus the two earthquakes in Mexico and the plea for help from Puerto Rico.

The Rotary Foundation has established four special funds to collect donations:

  1. Puerto Rico Recovery
  2. Mexico Earthquake Recovery Fund
  3. Gulf Coast Disaster Relief Fund (Hurricane Harvey)
  4. Hurricane Emergency Relief Fund (Hurricanes Irma and Maria)
Click here to read the article "Rotary Helps Disaster Victims" and how to make a contribution to the individual Rotary funds.

District 5170 has a link to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Our club presented school backpacks with supplies to the Ravenswood City School District at their Board meeting on September 28th at 6:30 pm.  These backpacks will be distributed to the needy children of the elementary schools of the district.  We were greeted with much warmth by the board members and applauded the efforts of our club towards the community.  We expressed our appreciation of the opportunity given to us.  It was a happy occasion to see Dr. Charlie Knight back in action.  Apart from her, the other Rotarians who were present that evening were Mrs. Grant, Ramesh, Bridget, Sobha, Duane, Leif, and Rotarian-to-be, Court Skinner.  In addition, Ravi (not present) created 50 tags (with our club's name on it) which was secured to each backpack.

This is an important planning event for our members.  This is an opportunity to plan our activities and priorities for the future plus have some fun.
