Each year, members of the Rotary Club of Lantzville are asked to nominate a Rotarian of the Year. President Lorie Heshka revealed on June 27th that for 2018, Barry Sparkes has been named the recipient of this honour.  Barry is taking a well-deserved vacation traversing England on foot and was unable to attend the event, but club members celebrated this fine choice!
Not only does Barry serve as club secretary, he is also the director for the Rotary Foundation.  He has been the proponent and chief administrator of our club's community service grants for the past several years.  Aside from the great job of leading in these capacities, Barry can always be found 'working quietly behind the scenes' in every task, job or event that our club undertakes.  Whether it is cooking sausages on Saturdays at the 7-10 club, laying sod for a community playground, organizing all of the golfers for our tournament or cleaning up after a breakfast meeting, Barry is always there.
Barry's contributions to our club, and to Rotary have always embodied the Rotary slogan "Service Above Self"!  Our club is thankful and proud to have him as a long-time member, and we join the community in congratulating Barry for a job well done.
