School Puts College Within Reach of Urban Kids

Hope Through Education: The Rev. Stephen Shafran, SDB, president of Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School in Takoma Park, Md., described the school's unique work-study program for inner-city kids at our Oct. 21 meeting.  The school works with area companies to create positions that are shared by teams of students.  The companies then pay the school.  The Catholic school, part of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., will graduate its first class of college-bound seniors in 2011.  Marty Shields arranged Fr.
