CLUB/BOARD APPROVED PROJECTS Polio Plus Focus: eradication of polio world-wide TCRC commitment for this year: $2000 minimum per commitment made by Ronnie Fundraising venue: Happy Talk, club events Neglected Tropical Diseases Focus: treatment of non-lethal diseases in the third world, particularly in children TCRC commitment for this year: $1000 minimum (to be paid to NIH's NTD unit) Fundraising venue: loose change basket passed at weekly meetings Guatemala Literacy Project Focus: provision of textbooks and computers to Guatemalan children (participated in by 87 RCs) TCRC commitment for this year: $1000 (contribution made in Oct09) Fundraising venue: club events SHELTERBOX Focus: provision of supplies for post-disaster families in need TCRC commitment for this year: $1000 paid in Dec09; additional $3000 paid in Jan10 for Haiti relief Fundraising venue: club events AQUABOX Focus: provision of water purification systems for post-disaster families in need TCRC commitment for this year: $2017.13 paid in Jan10 for Haiti relief (amount was British pound equivalent) Fundraising venue: club events Tibetan Children's Villages Focus: provision of server to function as remote library for Tibetan Children's Villages high schools in Gopalpur and Dharmsala, India; support to the Villages initiated in 2007 by Shirley Long and Katherine Barnett TCRC commitment for this year: $1600 paid in Dec09 (paid to Univ of Iowa Fndtn) Fundraising venue: club events Partner for Surgery Focus: shipment of medical supplies to Guatemala in support of US volunteer surgical team that supports locals unable to access surgical treatment; equipment we're shipping will expand birthing facility and better equip labs of medical school that supports clinic; ongoing project supported by Tysons Rotarian Mark Weishedel, Rotary Club of McLean and Rotary Internat'l TCRC Commitment for this year: $1500 paid in late May10 Fundraising venue: club events BOARD APPROVED PROJECT Ugandan Water Project Focus: provision of supplies for water project to drill new wells in vicinity of Buganda University, specifically to help local women in daily lives; Duke University has committed to drilling wells TCRC commitment for this year: Board voted to contribute $5000 for the year (to be held in account for expensing when/if project ready to launch) Fundraising venue: club events Comment: The Fort Meyer/Rosslyn RC is the primary sponsor for this project with local Ugandan RC. FM/RRC member Dr. John Veldhuis, President of Buganda U is POC for the project. District and International Rotary have committed to matching funds. NOTE: Dec2009/Jan2010 correspondence with Veldhuis described current "on hold" status of project due to 1) cut back of RI's hunger health and humanitarian matching funds, and 2) difficulties with reporting from Ugandan Rotary Club partner. Foundation Board meeting of 21Jan2010 agreed to hold funds until receipt of decisive word from Veldhuis. TOTAL CONTRIBUTIONS PROJECTED FOR THIS YEAR (2009/10): $18,117.13 (includes $5,000 for Uganda) (TOTAL CONTRIBUTIONS FOR LAST YEAR: $9200; YEAR BEFORE $8200)
