Wallingford Rotary Donates $10,000.00 WALLINGFORD — The Rotary Club has donated $10,000 to the town’s fire and police departments for the purchase of new fitness equipment. Club leaders presented a $5,000 check to each department Wednesday. The money will be used to buy equipment for each department’s newly-renovated fitness rooms. Both departments said they needed “modernized” equipment for the rooms, fundraiser organizer Robin Wilson said. Club President Michele McHugh said the donation is meant to show first responders “how much we appreciate all they do for us here in Wallingford, especially in light of the adverse national publicity.” Fire Chief Richard Heidgerd and Police Chief William Wright expressed gratitude. “It’s fantastic to get community support,” Heidgerd said. “It shows that they understand the value of having people capable of doing the job.” “There’s a lot of need in this community and every community, and the fact that they chose to support the police and fire departments is remarkable,” Wright said. The club raised a portion of the donated money by selling red and blue bracelets that said, “I [heart] WFD and WPD.” Please See Photo in the "Download" section to the right of this story.
