Greg Secord spoke to the club about the efforts to restore a long forgotten memorial for Hartford WWI veterans.  The memorial created in 1926 was located in Colt Park fashioned in a circle consisting of 207 plaques similar to the one above in front of Dutch Elm trees that had been planted as part of the memorial.  Unfortunately, the Elm trees fell victim to Dutch Elm disease and were destroyed.  The plaques were removed and long forgotten until six months ago when they were discovered in an out building in the corner of a dirt floor.  Greg and volunteers recovered 180 plaques and are working on restoration and a new memorial to be located in Colt Park.
