THIS WEEK'S SPEAKER: Chris Timm, Executive Director, Maine Maritime Museum
Chris Timm is the Executive Director of the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, Maine, a position he assumed in 2022 after serving as interim director beginning in 2021. He originally joined the museum in 2016 as Curatorial Associate and advanced to Chief Curator and Director of External Affairs before stepping into leadership. Timm has been central in broadening the museum’s mission, adding themes of globalization, cultural identity, and environmental issues to traditional maritime narratives.
Originally from Wisconsin, Timm earned a bachelor’s degree in Classical Archaeology at the University of Minnesota and a master’s in Byzantine Text and Archaeology from Queen’s University Belfast. He later pursued doctoral studies in Art History at Florida State University, where he also taught courses in Early Christian and Byzantine Art, Rome, and Constantinople.
As a leader, Timm emphasizes inclusivity, visitor engagement, and global perspectives, aligning with the museum’s civic mission. He has also contributed scholarship, including analysis of Bath’s shipbuilding history and maritime policy, reflecting his blend of academic rigor and cultural leadership.

LOVE SNACKS: Zach Newell oversees the “Snacks for Veterans” program, and is reminding everyone that we have $1,000 allocated to bring snacks to the Portland VA Clinic during the Rotary year. Volunteers are needed—one person per month—to purchase about $125 of individually wrapped snacks (chips, crackers, granola bars, trail mix, etc.) from Costco, BJ’s, or Sam’s Club, and deliver them to the VA Clinic (141 W Commercial St, Portland). LOCKER PROJECT: Amy Chipman announced a partnership with the Locker Project and Lamey Wellehan to distribute sneakers and backpacks at the Boys & Girls Club on Tuesday, September 9. To prepare, we’ll host a Backpack Stuffing Party after the meeting on Friday, September 5. All are invited to help—many hands make light work!
