THIS WEEK'S SPEAKER: Drew Dumsch, The Ecology School, Saco.
Drew is a co-founder & President/CEO of The Ecology School, a Maine educational nonprofit. Since 1998 school has educated 210,000+ children & adults in the science of ecology and the practice of sustainability. The school opened its new $14.1M campus in 2021, one of the most sustainable environmental living & learning centers in the country on the 313-acre River Bend Farm on the Saco River, Saco. He is active with the ME.Outdoor School for All Network, the ME. Environmental Education Association, the Nature Based Education Consortium, and the National Outdoor School for All Consortium. Drew was named to the Mainebiz 2020 Next list, honoring business leaders who have made a mark in the business community and helped propel Maine's economy. He was also named as a 2024 Mainebiz Nonprofit Business Leader of the Year.
Our New Meeting Place
The first meeting of the new year will be January 9th at USM, Abromson Hall, 88 Bedford Street, on the second floor, room 214/215. The building is connected to the parking garage.
This week via email, IMPORTANT instructions have gone out regarding the parking process. Please make sure you read them and set up your account in advance! It will save you time and concerns. If you need help, reach out to Laura Young or Bowen Depke.

Flags For Heroes at the Maine Celtics!
We received a call from Joe Quinlan from the Maine Celtics Basketball team a week before Christmas, with an offer to present Flags For Heroes at the halftime of their January 2nd game. Tom Talbott took the call and said Yes! Ok, we had to move fast, against the tide of holidays, vacations, no club meetings, flu season, Friday night....but with a combination of Rotarians and family members we had 37 volunteers join in. It turned out to be a ton of fun and well received by the sold out crowd of 2400 people. We rehearsed mid-afternoon, and at halftime we nailed it! 25 flag bearers, 8 sign carriers, 3 on the 50/50 raffle, and 1 MC. The audience gave us a solid cheer and thumbs up approval. Really a great feeling, and a nice way to show our Rotary teamwork!

Are we forgetting anything?
The 50/50 Raffle Squad. In light of last week's devastating fire on the waterfront, Chandler's Wharf, we opted to raise funds that will go to the Maine Coast Fisherman's Association. The MCFA is raising money to help the businesses and individuals who lost gear, equipment and their place of business. We'll follow up with the amount, which we project will exceed $500.
Our Foundation Chair, Jerry Wall, will be keeping us informed and educated on the benefits of the Rotary International Foundation. To wit: What IS the Rotary Foundation? The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.
