THIS WEEK'S SPEAKER: Julie Poulin, Animal Rescue League Greater Portland
Julie Poulin is Director of Development for the Animal Rescue League of Greater Portland. In this role she continues to build strong communities as she has in more than 30 years in leadership roles in non-profit organizations that have included Institutional Advancement for Jobs for Maine’s Graduates and the Spurwink Institute. Through her strategic mindset, Julie inspires and empowers others. Julie is a former member of the Rotary Clubs of Lakewood Ranch in Florida and Lewiston/Auburn here in Maine.
In her talk Julie will trace the unique history of the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland from its start in 1911 to the current programs. She will explain the education, training and community efforts, including the IDEXX safety net partnership that has made the remarkable number of 2,124 adoptions a reality in 2024.

THURSDAY NIGHT AT THE CELTICS!Our February social event held court at the Portland Expo, as a strong showing of Rotarians willed the Maine Celtics to a big comeback win over the Long Island Nets, 107-106.
We took advantage of the free hat offer, and Antonio, our Rotary Exchange Student was in the perfect position to catch a fresh Celtic t-shirt launched into the crowd. The nasty weather leading up to the event prevented some of our ticket holders to miss out, but the supporting Rotarian cast in the stands included Bill Blount, Jake Bourdeau, Jan Chapman, Bruce Moore, Roxane Cole, Charlie Frair, Larry Gross, Dick Hall, Bruce Jones, Gervin Kah, Ellen Niewoehner, Bill Ross, Quinn Slayton, David Small, Tom Talbott, John Thompson, and Paul Tully, with many accompanying guests. Good time, lots of action, a well run organization. Catch a game when you can!
THE RIGHT STUFF: Portland Rotarians were volunteering at the Locker Project this past week, stuffing close to 100 bags of veggies and 100 purple bags stuffed with food to be distributed to food insecure families in the Portland school system. Lending a hand- Mike Ross, Jerry Wall, Katharine Wall, Liz Fagan, Amy Chipman, Ellen Niewoehner and David Small.
FAIR EXCHANGE: While our incoming Rotary Youth Exchange Student Antonio was shagging Maine Celtics swag, overseas our outgoing Exchange Student, Maya Newell, Zach Newell's daughter, was getting some new threads of her own. Living for a year in Yaizu, Japan, she is wearing a stunning Kimono to visit a Shinto Shrine in celebration of the new year.
