This Week's Speaker: Martha Stein, Director of Hope Acts
Martha Stein is Executive Director of Hope Acts, a Portland-based nonprofit that supports and empowers asylum seekers in their transition to a new life in Maine by providing them with access to safe and stable housing, assistance in navigating complex immigration processes, access to vital social services, and resources to learn English.
Martha served on the Board for 2 years and took over at ED in 2018. Martha spent the first 20 years of her career in working in Fortune 500 companies. She moved to the nonprofit sector in 2003 and never looked back. Her nonprofit career has focused on social, economic and environmental justice. Martha lives in Brunswick with her husband Mitchell. She is a Master Gardener and a cellist in the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra. Martha has a B.S. from the University of CT and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
Topics will include - Who are the asylum seekers and why are they coming to Maine? Unique challenges faced by asylum seekers.. Hope Acts' response. The opportunity for Maine, concluding with Q&A.

pertinent information.
On May 19, 2023, the professionals at Red Maple Audiology in Turner will come together to provide audiological healthcare for income eligible individuals.Eligibility requirements must be met to enroll in this project:
• Diagnosed with hearing loss in one or both ears
• Income not to exceed 250% above the poverty line
• Live within the State of Maine
• Ability to complete a total of 10 hours of community service, or a community service/pay-it-forward project of your choice
• Willing to pay a small portion towards the hearing aid(s) ($125.00, plus $25.00 if earmold is needed)
• Appointments are necessary and are first-come-first serve.
