ANNOUNCEMENTS:
President Donna had several announcements to report:
We received a lovely thank you note for our donation to Wrap-A-Smile which was founded by Terry Hodskins on behalf of the Wells Rotary Club. Wrap-A-Smile sends beautiful handmade quilts throughout the world to children undergoing surgery for cleft lip and palate,. This Rotaplast mission provides the gift of beauty, warmth and comfort to kids, helping them manage and endure the pain of surgery. We also received a gracious thank you note from the the Seabrook Schools PTO due to our donation to the 8th grade walk.
There are now 10 sponsors for the newsletter. President Donna reminds us that the $50 advertising special for an annual display of your business to our members and beyond, is VERY time limited. This is a great deal that will end on September 30.
Chucky’s Plunge is scheduled for Sept 22nd. President Donna reminded us that Chucky was a former Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award winner. Sign up sheets and sponsor sheets were available at the meeting.
Barbara Lizotte reported back that the volunteer effort for the American Red Cross Blood Drive, scheduled for Sept. 28th at the United Methodist Church is fully staffed. She also reminded all to consider dropping by to see your fellow Rotarians and donate!
President Donna announced that the Buddy Benches, sponsored by Hampton Rotary, are in need of a new coat of stain. She is seeking leftover stain and volunteers to add another coat and protect the benches.
Another reminder from President Donna - District Governor John LoBosco, while on tour of the district, will be attending our Oct 2 meeting for his annual visit.
Ann Kaiser is working to update the Quartet list for donations to the Rotary Foundation. Any information providing who belongs to which Quartet would be helpful in clarifying if any openings might exist for other club members!
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Dave Considine announced that he and his wife had a very positive experience at the Seabrook ER. The care was immediate and professional. It’s great to hear about this important resource should emergency care necessary.
David Reid happily both survived and enjoyed the 48th Annual Beer CANvention. Sounded like a really good reason to visit Omaha!
Deb and Larry Marsolais had a great time visiting and hearing all the family news at a reunion of Deb’s family. Deb was really happy to spend some time with her Uncle who she last saw at age 10. She was also floored by the likeness of her Uncle in appearance and dress to her late father.
Barbara Lizotte thanked club members for ongoing efforts to support for the American Red Cross Blood Drive. Barbara also reported back on the status of the Little Free Library sites supported by Hampton Rotary. She emailed a pic of the adorable Little Free Library fashioned by David O’Connor and Craig Kelleher at the Camp Wakeda Campground in 2015. Two other Little Free Libraries are supported by Hampton Rotary - one at St. Vincent de Paul and the other at The Community Oven. It’s wonderful to provide assistance that contributes this generous gift to our local kids.
Congrats to a proud Ray Tweedie who’s daughter Emmah has entered the work force for the first time as an employee at The Community Oven. He also joyfully announced that daughter Isabella and son Raymond happily headed into 3rd and 2nd grades at Sacred Heart. Good luck to the Tweedie kids!
Jim Waddell advised us all to be on the lookout for whales spotted off North Beach!
Finally, Dave Considine reminded us of Camp Sea Haven founded in 1947 by Daniel Harrington, Sr., a Polio survivor. Established on Plum Island, the camp was a place where Polio victims could enjoy a free summer vacation without suffering the stigma associated with Polio. Due to the progress made in eradicating Polio in the U.S., Camp Sea Haven closed it’s doors in 1988. An amazing and very moving video is available on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I54pO46gGak that recalls the history of Camp Sea Haven and the astonishing positive experiences it gave campers and counselors managing this dreaded illness.
FUNDRAISERS:
THE SEAFOOD FESTIVAL (Sept. 7, 8 and 9)
Two out of three tireless organizers of The Seafood Festival, Jim Waddell and Larry Marsolais were in for a final report on how to participate as volunteers at the beer tent. The research, commitment and effort involved in organizing this fund raiser are monumental. Thanks to their hard work, Hampton Rotarians can set a great example of integrity and responsibility, all with a smile, at this popular event.
REACH THE BEACH (Sept. 15)
Rich Gibadlo reviewed plans for Reach the Beach, now in the final stages of preparation. He was happy to say the event is fully staffed with Rotarians and volunteers from SAU 90 PTA and Friends Forever. The schedule and work instructions have been emailed - contact Rich if you missed it. Rich reminds all that traffic is busy so plan extra time to arrive. Though the crowd tends to be tamer at this fundraiser, as compared with The Seafood Festival, he reminds all volunteers that even runners can get overly ambitious when it comes to drinking alcohol. Once again, let’s be there to display our support for this event with a sense of responsibility towards those folks celebrating.
David Longo followed up on ongoing preparations for the 19th Annual Golf Tournament to be held at the Portsmouth Country Club in Greenland, NH. The Tournament is still looking for players who for the sum of $155 will enjoy a buffet lunch, green fees with cart, a professional golf shirt, full dinner, raffle items...and a great crowd with fun for all! The Tournament is also seeking additional sponsors.
COMMUNITY NIGHT FOR POLIO (Oct. 24)
A great opportunity to feed your tummy and your soul. A percentage of the proceeds that night will go to the fight against polio.
