RYLA
At the August 7, 2018 meeting we were fortunate to welcome the kids from RYLA - Savanna, Hannah, and Madison, as well as a RYLA alum and current facilitator - Isabel. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm for the experience and also to hear how Rotary values can be transmitted. They all spoke of the importance of learning to trust and rely on the other members of their “leg” (group) and work together. They also described the importance of being able to focus on the positive attributes that each individual could contribute to the group. Finally, they all spoke of the increased self confidence they gained following their participation. It was wonderful to know we can support the growth of young people in such a positive direction.
Announcements:
Craig Kelleher reported on the adventures of the Friends Forever crew before they left our beautiful coast. Among other things, they enjoyed an antique car ride, a visit to the Fire Station, surfing lessons on Rye Beach on a perfect August day, ice cream, mini golf, and finally some awesome pizza courtesy of Rotarian Shane Pine of The Community Oven. Craig, your dedication is profound and your energy is apparently endless - it sounded like an amazing day. And a very BIG shout out to Shane for his tremendous generosity year after year.
Joan Correll’s amazing grand-daughter Rosie was featured in an article in the Portsmouth Herald. In this touching piece, we learn of her stunning resilience in the face of a rare and at times difficult to manage medical disorder. The article can be found at this link: http://www.seacoastonline.com/news/20180805/off-beaten-port-correll-wants-to-raise-awareness-of-disability. Congratulations to Rose for persevering, and to Joan for the pride she must feel for this amazing young woman.
Dave Anderson shared a great story about how social media can make our world a better place. He learned on a local website that there was a woman in Hampton whose friend had recently fractured an ankle and was in dire need of a wheelchair. Dave sprang into immediate action. Once again, Dave was there putting Rotary into action and helping someone local in need.
We all shared the joy of wishing our own Stephanie Santos a super HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Congrats Stephanie - I hope the birthday song from your fellow Rotarians was just the beginning of a very special day.

This second but no less important fundraiser of September is being co-chaired by Rich Gibadlo and Ray Tweedie. It’s a great detox plan following the Seafood Festival.
