Song Leader: President David: My Country 'tis of Thee
Thought of the Day: Joan Correll
50/50: Caren Ferris drew the 2 of Spades
Guests and Visiting Rotarians:
Tressa Bickford, President Exeter Rotary Club
Joe Manzi, Director, North Hampton Recreational Department

PROGRAM SPEAKER: Joe Manzi, Director, North Hampton, NH Recreational Department

Joe Manzi, the affable Director of the North Hampton Recreational Department, reviewed his personal life journey leading him to his current position and his future plans. Joe revealed that he in fact was a Rotarian in York Maine when he operated the Italian Deli adjacent to his father's Barber Shop. During that time, he became involved in recreation, working for the York Recreation Department doing coaching. His talents were not unnoticed, and before long Joe sold his deli began a full time career in Parks and Recreation.

Joe spent 16 years in Deerfield New Hampshire and views his time there as invaluable preparation for his current position in North Hampton. Over the 16 years in Deerfied, Joe developed a mostly self funding program that included numerous youth athletics, adult programming and activities, community based holiday events, concert series, preschool activities, and school and summer educational programs. He believes he is off to a good start in North Hampton, working first to achieve fiscal clarity.

Joe is planning to utilize the current programs as jumping off points to then can layer and build upon. He has "layered" Breakfast with Santa, as part of the programming schedule for the Rec Dept for the next few weeks. He noted that the summer camp and school programs have doubled, and is fortunate to have access to the schools for programming. He is also aware of the importance of not competing with small local businesses attempting to stabilize. He notes it is important to avoid programming readily available in the community.

With a warm smile, and a genial presentation, Joe Manzi is ready to expand North Hampton's Recreational Department. His experience and talents are obvious. He presented a clear vision for North Hampton, that was as measured as it was hopeful.

Announcements

President David announced that the first Soup Kitchen sponsored by the Hampton Rotary Club on November 4th, was a success. John Ferris served as chef and prepared a delicious pork stew. On hand as servers and support were President David, Ann Kaiser, Caren Ferris, Deb Marsolais and Jim Sambold. 30 patrons were served with 17 guests receiving seconds. Dinners were delivered flawlessly while the gentle tones of John Denver  provided background ambiance. The evening provided fun and fellowship for all. Please consider signing up for the upcoming Soup Kitchens - you won't be sorry.

Paula Rappolt is looking for readers to spend an enjoyable 20 minutes on a Wednesday morning, sharing your reading abilities and perhaps some warmth and smiles, with the Head Start preschoolers for the Rotary Readers Program at the Center School. Rotary Readers arrive at 9 am, and are given several books to share with the children. The kids are happy to see a new face, the teacher gets a brief respite, and the reader gets a morning boost of happiness. Contact Paula to volunteer for a little joy.

The Snowsuit Collection for the Head Start classes is well under way, with Anne Russell and Bud Palmer at the helm. Anne sought a few more volunteers for some remaining snowsuits at the meeting and will now begin the task of accumulating the snowsuits for eventual delivery. Anne is asking the suits be placed in non-holiday gift bags and delivered by November 17th.

President David is reminding all Hampton Rotary Club member that the Distinguished Citizen of the Year is an important community event. Please remember to invite additional members of the community, to come out and join us for this splendid occasion. It is always a very uplifting and positive experience for all who attend.

Get your foot warmers ready for the annual Hampton Christmas Parade scheduled for December 7th. March with the Hampton Rotary Club and hand out candy to needy tots along the parade route. We need people wearing Hampton Rotary Club Gear (or similar!!!!) so we can look like an awesome hoard of Rotarians marching with an awesome group of Interactors. After the parade the club is hoping to manifest a warm up fellowship event..details are in the works...

Deb Marsolais announced that sign ups have been circulating on-line for Salvation Army Bell Ringing. Please consider picking up a shift for this extremely worthy cause. They do good.

President - elect Larry Marsolais passed a clipboard with the hope that many Hampton Rotarians will be activated to consider a position on the Board of Directors. Elections are fast approaching for the next Rotary year.

Finally, with the holiday season sprinting towards us, the Poinsettia Program will be fast approaching as well. Be on the lookout for an email to order some lovely Poinsettias for friends and loved ones. Happy Rotarians will be called upon to take receipt, and deliver the plants when they come in, in early December.

Business Meeting:
President David congratulated the following members on their  Hampton Rotary Club anniversaries:
Dick Hanson : 40 years
Bud Palmer : 6 years
Jim Westfall: 48 years

President - elect Report:
President - elect Larry Marsolais ran down the upcoming speaker schedule, noting that we will be hosting the Masonic Lodge on November 19th. He also reinforced hopes for a large group of volunteer candidates for the Board of Directors.

Vice President Report:
VP Geoff Merrill is directing the Distinguished Citizen of the Year event. The gala scheduled for November 14th, brings Rotarians and the community together for a truly inspiring and positive experience.

Secretary's Report:
Secretary Deb Marsolais reported the following:
Membership stands at 47 active and 9 honorary members
Attendance in September was 68.89% and October was 51.92%

The Board approved 3 donations at the October Board meeting:
1. $500 - Child Voice International
2. $800 - Funding for two WHS Interact students to attend Rotary Day at the UN in NYC
3. $4000 - Friends Forever, International

Deb also reminded all that advertisements for business cards can still be purchased for display on both Coast Lines and the Rotary Club website for only $35, for the remainder of the Rotary Year.

Finally, when shopping at Hannaford's Market - if you are in need of replacing your shopping bag - now is the time. For every community bag purchased, $1 is donated to your Hampton Rotary Club through the month of November. It is a great moment to upgrade.

Treasurer's Report:
President David filled in for Treasurer Don Lamprey. Our fundraising efforts through October have appeared to have landed our club on some firm financial ground. The Poker Room also served to be a "big win" this year for the club. In addition, we are very fortunate that Loco Sports will be helping to underwrite the costs of the Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award event.

Foundation Director Report:
Foundation Director Ann Kaiser reminded all that November is Foundation month. It's a good time to renew, or initiate, a commitment to the Rotary Foundation. Ann noted that polio cases continue to arise, and that children need ongoing vaccination to prevent an escalation in outbreak of new cases. Ann is hoping for a Community Oven fellowship filled fundraising event in January which will include raffles and gift baskets. Ann also noted that making donations online via Rotary Direct to Rotary International is simple, and she left instruction cards on the tables, for those in need of step by step instruction.

Membership Director:
Membership Director Bill McGowan announced that there is a new prospective member, and Joe Perruse will be inducted. He is looking for committee members to aid in updating the by-laws. Please contact him, if interested.

Public Relations Director:
Public Relations Director Caren Ferris is continuing to work on getting the word out to the newspapers about upcoming Hampton Rotary Club events to increase community exposure.

Service Projects Director:
Service Projects Director Jim Waddell noted a very successful service event cleaning up Atlantic Avenue in Morth Hampton on October 29th. Jim noted that Hampton Rotarians working with members of Friends Forever were able to pick up and remove 10 large bags of trash from the roadside.

Following the Business meeting Sheila Francoeur's raffle ticket for the President's Raffle was drawn and Sheila walked off with an unexpected additional $100 and 50 Foundation points. Raffle tickets are $10 each, and can be purchased at meetings or by contacting President David. Winners are drawn monthly.

Happy Dollars
Sergeant-at-Arms Jim Waddell started off  Happy Dollars with news of his wonderful trip to Colorado Springs for the induction of son Chris into the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Hall of Fame. He was not only gifted by witnessing Chris' success, he was able to meet some some amazing athletes, whose careers had impacted him and the country. He particularly noted meeting beach volleyball legend Misty-Mae Traenor, and being impacted by the message of accord delivered by legend Tommie Smith.

Tressa Bickford, President of the Exeter Rotary Club announced the 10th Annual Holiday Auction occurring on December 6th at the Exeter Inn promises to have lots of cool stuff up for bid.

Craig Kelleher presented many Happy Dollars for so many Happy and wonderful thoughts. He paid tribute to our members Anne Russell and Bud Palmer for their great efforts in directing the Snowsuit Collection for Headstart. He thanked Ann Kaiser for saving him money on the snowsuits he purchased, due to her email blast. He was very happy that the rain lifted long enough for the Atlantic Avenue cleanup to allow for a damp, not rain drenched experience. He noted the Friends Forever entourage later enjoyed an antique car ride, and that the money raised from our Happy Dollars that day,  nearly covered the costs of the kids going through the corn maze. Craig then remarked on an amazing email he received - a former Friends Forever participant from 15 years ago was seeking to find Craig, to take him out for dinner, as a thank you for the time spent in North Hampton, and for how nice Craig was. The student will be coming to the area in the future and it promises to be a wonderful reunion. Perhaps the Happiest Dollar of all went to the announcement that Craig is now 15 years cancer free.

Paula Rappolt is on the move once again. She donated Happy Dollars for having finalized plans to enjoy this Christmas with her family in London.
