Extra! Extra! Latest RCAAN News
We had a wonderful meeting this past Thursday with Tamra Ward subbing for our usual Prez. Keith and his side kick John Arenz.

Announcements were made concerning the up & coming Golden Age of Hollywood fundraiser happening on Mar.29th.  The plans are coming along well with posters and invites coming soon. Everyone should be enjoying the visit from their little yellow raffle tickets and hopefully have themon their way to spread the happiness and joy of owning a little yellow tickets to friends, family etc.

The announcements continued with Tamra telling us about registration for the District conference being open now online. Make sure to make your reservations early as accommodations go quickly.

Tamra also announced a fund raising event happening with the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons and District 6380 are having an End Polio Night at a Pistons Basketball game on Friday, February 21st at the Palace of Auburn Hills. A light dinner will be served at a discount in the Pistons Power Hour 6:00-7:00pm outside section 118. Proceeds from each ticket will be donated back to the District 6380 Mission of Ending Polio Now. Exclusive tickets pricing is available with lower level seating @ $30 and upper level seating at $15per ticket. You can register for tickets online at https://pages.palacenet.com/district6380endpolionight.html.  At the end of the game there are free court passes available to take a picture and a free shot at the basket.  So let’s have a wonderful family night out with Great basketball and help to end Polio Now.

Golden Age of Hollywood Update
We're excited about this year's Rotary Foundation Dinner on March 29.  Planning is progressing nicely and Laura is about to close the opportunity for sponsorship.  Do you know of someone who might be interested?   The different sponsor levels are available on the web-site. Deadline for presenting sponsors is Feb. 12th so that the sponsor’s logo can be included on the programs etc.

The Silent Auction is being chaired by Brigitte Romero so if you know of a business or someone who wants to donate either a basket or items for the silent auction please contact Brigitte. People are also needed to help contact businesses and people who have donated in the past.

The lovely little yellow raffle tickets should all be distributed by now or will be arriving at your home soon via the US Postal Service. They are really looking forward to a very short visit with you and then going on to new people to spread their joy and happiness to all. If you would like to sponsor more of the lovely yellow tickets please contact their managers Tammy and Don Broderick.

There will be a Fundraising committee meeting on 2/19/2014 at the Applebee’s on Plymouth RD. at 6pm. Please be there to help make this fundraiser one of the best.

This Week's Happy Dollars
Many people were happy to share their dollars and announcements/ comments with the club. These happy $”s started with Laura Van Steenis who was happy that the details for the fundraiser were working out well despite the fact that she had only had 2.5 hours of sleep the last 2 days.

Sofia Franciscus continued the Happy $’s with a wonderful compliment to the club. Sofia said that she was very happy to be part of such a great club as ours! Thank you Sofia!!!

Dick Rosenfeld is a wonderful guest to our club who kept the happiness going with a tribute to the Ann Arbor Symphony and to the wonderful music available all over the city.

Don Broderick echoed Sofia comments about the club with a short ugh! Club Good! Caveman style.

Phil Zepeda rounded out the happiness with his appreciation of Scott Nelson and the fact that he had heard the national anthem of Finlandia and the sad fact that the country was auctioning off one of their native son’s homes.

This Week's Speaker
As our wondrous program chair Phil Zepeda brought us another outstanding program and speaker. The program for the day was a visit from the conductor for the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, Arie Lipski. Mr. Lipski is a cellist, plays the flute, has master of music with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering, who likes yoga, swimming and being a sous chef. He is also a guest conductor with the Hyfa Symphony Orchestra. Arie lead the singing of the 2 national anthems by playing the anthems from memory on his flute. The fun continued with lessons on the flute and the cello and how the different notes were played on each instrument. He continued his program with a lesson on learning to be a conductor. He taught us about the different groups of instruments and how the right hand keeps the beat (meter) of the music and how the hands together directed the orchestra in the loud, soft, faster, slower parts of the music. By the time Arie was finished we were singing a wonderful rendition of Happy Birthday to Lisa Hudy with loud and soft faster and slower sections. Thank you Phil for a super program!
