So...it's POKER WEEK!  Thank you to our members who immediately stepped up and answered the call to serve. All of our shifts are filled EXCEPT Saturday, August 2 from 5:30 - 9:30.  If you are available to cover this shift PLEASE email lhudy@mi.rr.com as soon as possible.

Here is the schedule:

Thursday, July 31 - 5:30 - 9:30:  Gail Scott and Manish Mehta
Thursday, July 31 - 9:30 - 2:00:  Mary Gyorke and Bryan Schindel

Friday, August 1 - 5:30 - 9:30:  Tammy Broderick and Tamra Ward
Friday, August 1 - 9:30 - 2:00:  Sofia Franciscus and Joel Gechter

Saturday, August 2 - 5:30 - 9:30: Stephanie Oliver and NEED VOLUNTEER FOR THIS SHIFT
Saturday, August 2 - 9:30 - 2:00: Eric Tindall and John Copeland

If you are on the 5:30 - 9:30 shift, one of you will need to bring $300 opening cash in the following denominations:   5 $20's, 10 $10's, 10 $5's and 50 $1's to make change.  Please decide in advance which of you will be bringing the change.  Lisa Hudy will have the checkbook at the July 31 meeting if you need the club foundation to front the cash for you. Please make sure you take the cash out of the drawer before you leave at 9:30 pm and let Lisa know if you have any questions.

This is an important fundraiser for our club and we truly appreciate your support!
On July 19, Manish and Anshul Mehta delivered a drum set to one of our Green Baxter Court families displaced by a fire last year. The drum set was a promised replacement that could not be delivered until the family was resettled in new housing.

Manish reports that while the family is doing well in their new home, they are also in need of a dining room table.

As the photo shows, the two third and fifth grade boys and their Mom (Pam) and an older son (in nursing school) were truly thrilled with the gift which Anshul assembled in their living room in the two-bedroom apartment.

Manish added, "I do feel sorry though for their rather overgrown pitbull dog as well as their fellow neighbors in the building when the drum practices begin!
This week's Happy Dollars were given by

Manish Mehta who enjoyed delivering the drum set he has been holding for one of our Green Baxter Court families displaced by fire. We're grateful to Manish and son Ansul for donating their time and the drum set.

Gail Scott shared that her new dog was skunked and after several attempts to de-skunk the dog, her daughter and son in law crafted a concoction that did the trick. Good thing that she knows the secret since the dog got skunked again this week.

Don Broderick expressed sincere appreciation to his bride Tammy Broderick for her TLC during his recovery from a broken ankle.
This week we welcomed Anshul Mehta, John Hammond and John Rasmussen. Thank you Stephanie Oliver for serving as our Greeter on July 24. Scott Nelson will be our Greeter for our next meeting on July 31.
Can someone remind me who one this last 50/50 pot?  Memory fails me this week. I do remember that Tammy Broderick sold the winning ticket. Next week's winner could be you, but you've got to be at our July 31 meeting to purchase your ticket from Stephanie Oliver!

We would also like to wish Claire and Phil Zepeda a happy anniversary and hope they enjoyed a great celebration on July 28.

George's vision, dreams and goals are now my vision, dreams and goals for our great District.

They include:

Increased membership and a more diversified membership.

Literacy - every club to take part in a literacy project.

Increased awareness of our Rotary Foundation and reaching George's goal of $225,000 for the Annual fund.  (We have been raising between $140,000 and $180,000 in recent years).

George's planned activities will go on as planned, including:

August 23rd - District staff meeting in Chatham, OntarioThis will be coordinated by PDGs Keith Koke and Jeff Litchy. Every Club President is invited.  It's your chance to learn more about how the District works, and works for you, the Clubs.

September 21st - Rotary Day at the Detroit Zoo.  It will be a day of fun and fellowship, with Rotary awareness.  We will all be wearing End Polio Now shirts, which will be distributed at the event.  Please plan on bringing club members, family and friends. John Mucha, Birmingham, AG Karen Gabrys, Ypsilanti and AG Nick Casteel, Sterling Heights are planning a great day for us. Please be sure to invite Youth Exchange,Interact and Rotaract members as well.

April 24th, 25th and 26th - Our District Conference at the Motor City Casino chaired by Birmingham Rotarians Christine Winans and Wendee Haugh.

CLUB VISITS - I will visit about half of the clubs and have asked PDG Jim Gilmore, PDG Steve Youtz and PDG Jeff Litchy to assist me in this.  They will split the remaining clubs.  We will have a unified message for all our great Rotarians. This will allow all of the club visits to be completed by the third week of October.  Every year it is important, but this year, I think it more important than ever to get out George's vision, dream and goals as early as possible.

PDG Jim Gilmore will be visiting the Ann Arbor North club on October 23. There will be a board meeting at 10:30 am on that day.

I am asking all of you, our Club leaders, and all 1,750 D6380 Rotarians to LIGHT UP ROTARY - GEORGE'S WAY!!!
