Stories
It is with a heavy heart that I amend my previous announcement regarding the memorial service for Lisa Hudy's mother on May 9.

Lisa's father passed away last week and now the family is planning a joint memorial service for their parents. A Celebration of the lives of Eric and Nancy Aupperle will take place on Saturday, May 9 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Nie Family Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Rd, Ann Arbor. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in memory of Eric Aupperle to the University of Michigan Electrical and Computer Engineering Fund (fund number 313472, U of M EECS Dept, 1301 Beal Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-2122), which supports student research, guest instructors and state-of-the-art equipment purchases.

If you are unable to attend the Saturday service, you may leave messages of sympathy via their online guest book: http://www.niefuneralhomes.com/obituaries/Eric-Aupperle/

Please keep the Hudy family in your thoughts and prayers as they mourn the passing of their parents.

ATI Physical Therapy and the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor North are proud to present the first annual Phil Zepeda Invitational Golf Tournament on Saturday, May 30 at the Polo Fields Golf and Country Clubs, 2955 Packard Road, Ypsilanti.  The Martin Family Foundation has graciously agreed to sponsor the luncheon and the dinner is sponsored by Phil Zepeda of Raymond James and Jeff Crause of Edward Jones. Peg Windsor, Abbey Park at Mill River and Key Bank are also sponsors this year.  There are a just a handful of sponsorship opportunities available, better grab one 'cause this group moves quickly!

NOW is the time to register your team and reserve your dinner. Please be considerate and make arrangements for your participation before the day of the event.  As a reminder:

Registration for the event opens at 8:00 am with a shotgun start at 9:00 am and includes 18 holes of golf with a hot dog, chips and soft drink at the turn. The steak dinner honoring Phil Zepeda takes place at approximately 2:00 pm and individual dinner tickets are available for $45 per person. Fun and fellowship also includes great prizes and a 50/50 raffle and your donations of gifts and services are welcomed and appreciated.

Fees are $100 per player with a package deal of $500 for your team of four and a hole sponsorship - a savings of $50.

Flyers and brochures are available at our meetings and are also available for download through the documents section of our Club Runner website. The committee would also be happy to mail flyers to friends, family, neighbors, vendors and fellow golfers at your request.  For more information or to provide mailing addresses for direct mail, please contact Matt Copeland at (734) 674-9327, via email to matt.copeland@comcast.net or fax to (734) 487-6355.
Phil and Claire Zepeda are proud to announce the arrival of their grandson

Nicholas Alexander Henson-Zepeda  aka   “Nico”

Nico arrived on May 2nd and doesn't mind sharing a birthdate with HRH Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Little Prince Nico weighed 8 lb, 12 oz  and mom, baby and the rest of the family are delighted to announce his arrival.  Blessings to all!
At our April 29th meeting, our board voted to donate $1000 to Rotary International to purchase a shelter box in response to massive destruction following the recent earthquake in Nepal.  Here is an update of the progress of the RI ShelterBox project provided on May 6:

ShelterBox’s logistics team, along with help from response teams in Nepal, have worked around the clock to transport aid into Nepal. Despite major logistical challenges and a bottleneck at Nepal’s only international airport in Kathmandu, an initial 500 tents, along with 500 shelter kits have now arrived in the country to bring shelter to the thousands of communities torn apart by the massive earthquake.

While early reports suggest that around 600,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed, the full extent of the 7.8 magnitude quake that hit between the major cities of Pokhara and the capital of Kathmandu is yet to be revealed.

ShelterBox response teams are currently based in Kathmandu as well as in the district of Sindhupalchowk, where around 95% of buildings have been damaged or totally destroyed by the shock of the earthquake.

In Kathmandu and other urban areas, the main priority is to clear rubble, and to rebuild structures, while in rural and remote areas, whole villages have been totally devastated.

Nicola Hinds, who arrived in Nepal last week, said: ‘We have already heard that in the area of Gorkha, 90% of buildings have been destroyed and a further 5% have been partially destroyed. We believe that it will be a real challenge to reach all of these communities, but we will find a way because that's what ShelterBox does.'

As different types of aid are needed in different parts of the country, ShelterBox’s logistics team, based in Helston, UK, have decided to send 500 UN specification tents and 500 shelter kits from pre-positioned stocks in Dubai.

Families in remote areas, who have completely lost their homes, will be provided with tents, while shelter kits will be distributed to people living in urban areas.

This is the final call for your attendance at this year's District Assembly on Saturday, May 9, Walsh College, Troy Michigan, 8:00-3:00. Registration (which includes lunch and a continental breakfast) is $30.

Please remember that there will be a Grant Management Seminar as a part of the agenda.  If your club plans on applying for a grant, you must have two people attend a Grant Management Seminar.
