We had a very engaging and busy meeting today! First, we had two very enjoyable visitors. Pastor Jorge Meketela from the Seventh-Day Adventist Church Ann Arbor and Author/Lawyer Ashok Arora joined us for our Club Assembly. We hope to see them again soon!
Next, our own Manish Mehta gave us a quick intro to his recent visit to Tanzania where he met Petro Korongoro (whom Brent Lofgren funded through college 15 years ago) from a Masssai village. Petro is working to improve the water conditions in his village. So we have, yet again, another possibility for being the supporting club on an RI Global Grant. This is in the very, very early stages at this point.
Finally, incoming President, Bob Ransom, led us in the beginning session towards the goal to update and re-do our club's strategic plan. Key in this process is to become more visible and increase membership. A task force was set and we will begin work soon.
Three members of our club (Diane Sheffrey, Bob Ransom, Lisa Hudy) attended the District Assembly and District Grant Seminar on April 11, 2026. We have now met the requirements for submitting district grant applications. In addition, we attended other sessions I including sessions on club administration, membership, clubrunner, etc.
At the March 12th RCAAN Luncheon, Teri from Foundations Preschool talked about the School.
Teri explained, Foundation's Preschool of Washtenaw County mission is to provide equitable access to high-quality care and education; prepares children for future academic and social success; and strengthens families through opportunities for professional, personal, and parental growth.
Foundation Preschool is a charitable non-profit organization. Their mission is to provide equitable access to high-quality early childhood programs and support services. Through outside funding, Foundations can provide tuition on a sliding scale as well as other services that other preschools and daycare providers cannot.
On February 26, 2026, RCAAN held our bi-annual Club Assembly. Board members reviewed their responsibilities and shared progress with the club. Members were able to ask questions and provide input. We also viewed 2 great videos highlighting the work of The Rotary Foundation.
Angela Bingham from Osher Lifelong Learning Institute spoke to our club about their adult learning program. Their design is to offer learning experiences designed by and carried out by members.
At today's meeting Sue Reynolds, from Catholic Charities, shared basic information about the causes of dementia and strategies for working with those we care for. It was a very interesting and informative session. Sue also shared the other services provided by the Catholic Charities organization. District Assistant Governor Mike McManus also joined us with a couple of announcements and fellowship. It was a wonderful meeting today.
